The drug dealing is the issue I dont stop them to ask what it is it really should not be done around here anyway with all the neighbor hood kids running around
Drugs are dealt by pickup/dropoff service in my neighborhood, near the airport. The police actually asked me if I could get a plate number for them to run. Really? Isn't that their job?
I would be "stressing" too. The private is public when it's your next-door neighbor. You should do 3 or 4 things: call or email your alderperson, Maureen (Maureen O'Sullivan-Best ), go to the QEMT community mtg next month and bring it up (qemteam@hotmail.com), call our local top cop and leave him a msg at 946-7163, and/or fill out the anonymous drug detection form, available at:
http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/Police/e_forms/drugform.doc Try to get car and person descriptions, plus lic plate #'s, w/o putting yourself in any danger.
When you say kids I now know you mean it, in the last few weeks have noticed kids under the age of 15 standing around at the gate in the cold. I'm thinking there could be numerous reasons for this, its when they are giving the eye to every passing car it makes you think they might be standing watch.
How places like this get built on what was a beautiful old street is beyond me. That complex alone has turned that section of Q. Ave into a wasteland of boarded up houses. The fence reminds me of a prison.
As of 2013 City departments have begun to review, acknowledge and respond to SeeClickFix issues. Since your issue is in the category titled "No Service Request" and was submitted prior to 2013, we are going to close and archive it. If this issue still requires City attention, please report as a new SeeClickFix issue. Thank you.
City of New Haven-
I would like to re-open this, as there is still an ongoing drug problem at 1425/1423 Quinnipiac Ave. from the New Haven Housing Authority, with 1378 Quinnipiac Ave, St Anthony 1&2, and Trinity Management Company on 1435 Quinnipiac Ave. Since the City and the New Haven Police Department have failed to take any action on this since 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and now 2014. We are hoping, but not holding our breath. This should be reopened!!
^ Agreed, but based on that city official's post, I'm not sure if this will get the attention it deserves. The person suggested reopening it/creating it as a "new" issue . We all know it's not, but I don't know the logic or reasoning behind why some issues get closed and some do not.
Have you tried directly calling our local top cop, in the East Shore NHPD office, or gone to the Quinn East Mgmt Team monthly meeting, or contacted our new alder woman Rosa Santano?
Anonymous-
I have re-opened posts as well as created new "issues". It is insulting that the City of New Haven, Mayors office and NHPD have ignored the narcotics issues and quality of life surronding the properties of New Haven Housing authority, Saint Anthony 1&2 and Q Ridge as well as the city owned rowe houses which drugs are being sold out of. It's like being a prisoner in your own home. Within 38 days, this community had 3 homicides. This district has never had such an increase of murders, violence and drugs since the housing authority built projects all around this area. In the next few months you will see many more members being more active, such as setting websites, facebook pages, and youtube videos, as well to fundraise for a legal fund to fight New Haven Housing Authority and the City of New Haven.
L- Many members of this community as well as residences of Bella Vista and Fair Haven heights have contacted Chief Esserman, Sgt. Anastasio, Renee Dobos at New Haven Housing as well as LCI. No one has been proactive, there are always excuses. I guess Chief Esserman, making $150,000 a year cannot find a way with the NHPD with the $38,328,550 budget to combat violence and the drugs and the issues that have been plaguing the East Shore neighborhood. The residences and home owners of this community really have to stand together and let our votes count.
This issue hasn't been ignored, call my office 203-946-7163, and I will be glad to talk to you about what the Police Department and I do on a daily basis in your neighborhood. Its better to find out directly from the source. Remember just because you don't see the white Police cruiser doesn't mean we are not there.
We do not see police cruisers around here often enough. We just had two murders in this area. Police were very visible for about two weeks, that's it. The root cause of all of this is the large amount of public housing complexes in this area. These housing units for most of the residents are basically free, The only way to end crime is remove the source. The easiest way to remove the source in this case is to make the source pay money to live in their homes, just like the victims must do. If there was a rabid dog running loose in this area, foaming at the mouth, attacking people waiting for the bus everyday, causing serious injuries and death, what would the city do? The city would dispatch every resource possible until this dog "the source" was found and removed. We have hundreds of large packs of sick, rabid dogs doing this everyday. They all keep den holes in public housing. And there are plenty of den hole mothers who protect them.
I agree this is a major issue. I encourage everyone concerned to attend the management team meeting, contact the NHPD district manager, the housing authority, join a block watch, and so on. However, suggesting that residents of public housing are inherently the cause of the problem is dangerous and unfair. We should be able to have both affordable housing AND safe communities. The root cause is not public housing tenants - most of them are suffering from lack of good economic opportunities themselves which is why they're in public housing to begin with. The root problems here are lack of lack of opportunities for our residents and especially our young people to be productive, learn, play, work, and even blow off steam without hurting themselves or each other.
Here's idea. Force, not instruct "force" all registered occupants in public housing to attend weekly meetings with police to discuss crime in their neighborhoods. Failure to attend will result in eviction.
Anonymous User, I feel some of your frustration.
Economic Opportunity, this community from Glen Haven to Quinnipiac Ave to Eastern and everything else in between have contacted Chief Esserman, District Managers, and Housing Authority. I am not the only one in this community that strongly believes that the Housing Authority is the main cause of the narcotics trade and the numerous quality of life issues that the Quinnipiac East Shore has. You’re absolutely right when you say its "dangerous" when the Housing Authority builds projects around privately owned condos and homes. Projects, of which drugs are being sold out of, use of intimidation by the drug dealers and the HANH residents. It's dangerous for the Ross Woodward and Bishop Woods school children to be within feet of multiple drug transactions on HANH's properties. The NHPD has known about this for YEARS. It's dangerous for the home owners to see their private properties being vandalized by juveniles who live at Trinity and HANH. When the home owner asks them to stop the vandalism, and calls the police, they are met with a crowd of angry relatives on the home owner’s private property starting a confrontation. It's dangerous for the home owners to find narcotic packaging, soiled condoms, littering which always includes broken alcohol bottles on their property every day, all of which come from HANH's residents. It's dangerous for the residents to have three unsolved murders, Deveron McLaughlin, Javier Martinez, and Durell Law all down the street or directly across from HANH’s properties. When you spoke of good economic opportunies, were you speaking of Karen DuBois-Walton $172,276 or Jim Miller’s $170,708 tax payer paid salaries, totaling over a quarter of a million dollars (not including the salaries of those in the executive offices)? You should tour the properties of these neighborhoods and see for yourself how HANH destroys them.
Our new Mayor is trying to create 7 new positions on the city hall staff. Does anyone think these new positions will be advertised to the public for application? NO !!!!! These new positions are for friends and relatives. What a disgrace and it hasn't been a month. Fortunately the board of alders decided not to vote on this.
