The traffic light for northbound traffic on Marion Ave crossing Route 50 to go north on Route 9 remains green for too short a time. Before it was "fixed" last spring, more than 5 cars could make it through the light.

The problem is the traffic coming from the opposite side. What we need is a police officer there to ticket every car that keeps turning left after the arrow has changed.

No, this light is absolutely ridiculous. The timing needs to be fixed. Going north, no more than 2-3 cars can get through the light at a time, it's even worse in the summer. The other night when I was driving south on Marion Ave the light LITERALLY changed to green for 1 SECOND. It was like a flash of green then immediately RED. I live on this road and it's awful. They took away the shoulder so when we try to pull out of the driveway we could easily get hit by oncoming cars that we cannot see due to the snow banks. Very dangerous.

THE LIGHT IS OK IT'S JUST THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO DRIVING THEIR CAR...TOO MANY OF THEM ARE NOT READY TO MOVE WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGES..I TRAVEL THAT ROAD EVERY DAY AND HAD MISSED THE GREEN LIGHT A NUMBER OF TIMES WHEN THERE HAS BEEN ONLY 5 CARS IN LINE.
THE DRIVERS NEED TO DRIVE AND NOT BE TALKING OR TEXTING AND BE READY TO GO WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGES...JUST BECAUSE YOUR STOPPED YOU STILL NEED PAY ATTENTION TO THE RULES OF THE ROAD. WAKE UP DRIVERS!

This light seems to have a shorter timing (at night?) and a longer timing (during the day). They seem to change around 8 AM. But one of the busiest times of day at this intersection is at about 7:25 to 7:40 AM when all the Maple Avenue Middle School kids are being shuttled to school. It is definitely not long enough at this time of day, particularly given how many school buses are coming up the hill from Excelsior. Sometimes only 2-3 school buses get through. If you rest the timer to give the longer time at 7 AM, it would be a big help.

they let about 3 cars through intersection. it's absolutely insane. plus having a manhole cover that's 2 feet below ground-level makes people slow down before going through intersection, so only 2 cars pass sometimes. FIX THIS!

This is an issue that needs to be taken up with NYS DOT and they may not do anything until they get to their planned projects for the Arterial in 2014 - 2016.

Sorry to the people who suggest the backed up traffic is because driver's aren't paying attention (not sure you can fix that) or that parents need to let their kids take the bus to school (really?). The fact of the matter is that the timing on this light is way off and has been for a long time! This was posted last year yet has been an issue for years and still, nothing has been done. I also drive this road EVERYDAY and I know that if the light is green as soon as I turn on to Marion, there is no way that I'm going to make that light. Hopefully this new committee the commissioner is rounding up will do something about it now because in the summer and in the afternoon, the traffic spills onto Excelsior and people cannot get by.

I agree that the timing is short, but if you are having trouble during certain times of day, LEARN AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE. There are other ways to cross Route 50, even bypass it, to go north on Route 9. Of course it depends on exactly where you are going. But taking a look at a map [a REAL map, not your GPS] may save you a lot of trouble. As far as the school buses, this is a problem. Nearly every year, taxpayers in the SSCSD are asked to spend more on buses. And then I see buses coming out of Maple Ave and Dorothy Nolan that are less than half full. And L-O-N-G lines of cars waiting to pick up kids. The SD needs to start a BIG campaign to get parents to have their kids take the bus, if they haven't already.
