Recently, the intersection of Wilson St & Parkway South was redone. The traffic light was re-timed very effectively...reducing terribly excessive idle times. Excellent! Now just think if every light at every intersection in Bangor & Brewer were to be re-timed as effectively as the one at Wilson St & Parkway South how much more freely traffic would move & the untold gallons of fuel that would be saved.(The light at Broadway and State St in Bangor is the best example Of which I can think

You couldn't be more correct. A trip out Wilson St. From Acme Rd. to Lowes, takes about 10 minutes with all the red lights. Also, check out the useless island on the corner of Union and No. Main St. by city hall. It is designed to keep motorists from turning left off Union St. onto No. Main. The no left turn sign in the middle of the island has been clipped off by vehicles at least four times and now, has not been replaced. I guess they just gave up. I constantly see drivers turn left, even as inconvenient as this turn is. I have seen several vehicles run up over the island as they are traveling up No. Main St, as this island is in a direct line with the curb. When traveling down No. Main, wishing to turn left onto Union St, you have to make a very wide path to turn onto Union St. This is quite unnatural. I have called the Brewer City Engineer and he still thinks this island iis a good idea. It's time he re-examined this island and have it removed. Check out the light on Center and State St. by Marks Music. If you are on Center St, preparing to turn left onto the bridge, when your light turns green, God help you if you don't count to three before you pull out. You surely will be T-Boned by the constant blowing of the red light there. OK, I'm done. Thanks..

I'm always nice. When I called the City Engineer, I was polite and we had a gentleman's conversation. I just had to vent my frustration with a couple of things in reference to traffic problems in the city. Check out my issues and see what you think. I know you'll be nice when you respond. LOL

Paul, I have followed some of your comments. However, I cannot figure out how to get all of the comments up front. Not the most friendly web site, I'm thinking. The one area you was frustrated with, and I whole heartedly agree, is the island at the mouth of Union and North Main Street. Obviously, the intent is to keep westerly traffic from taking a left hand turn. I have yet to see any problems with folks that want to go left. And also, to discourage left turns onto Union Street from North Main. That isn't working too well either. Motorist are taking that left turn (inside) anyway.

I'm the original poster...it's very disappointing that the powers that be pay no attention to these reports. Little, if anything, has been done to re-time traffic lights in Bangor-Brewer. Vehicles sit at red lights for minutes at a a time while no traffic passes on the cross streets. Traffic repeatedly backs up for bridge repairs in Brewer with no cars in sight in the intersections...this even as attention is drawn directly to the problem by the repairs. Government asleep at the switch, as always.

My advice would be for you to direct your comments to me directly, or to the City Manager's office. We are not in the business of responding necessarily to what the BDN is trying to accomplish to enhance their revenue stream. So, here again, are the addresses etc.
