Outside blight. Barn is falling down, Trash in backyard, fencing around property, cars in back yard. Front yard has been cleaned up but backyard including "fencing" around backyard is inappropriate. Affects neighborhood.

I think I know the home in question. It used to be a large boarding home that was falling apart for many years and was finally purchased many years ago by a large, very nice family that has been working on it ever since. They are constantly trying to improve it but it is such a huge place that they have to take it in small parts and have been working front to back. The fencing was probably rotten and fell apart and they cleaned out much of the bamboo on their property which makes the back visible to those on Springside Avenue. Many of the homes on Hard Street date back to 1875, were neglected for a long time when New Haven was abandoned, and the homes were sold for $30-$60,000. I live in a condo on that street and have problems because many owners cannot afford the preventive maintenance necessary to keep up these structures. I am not certain I am thinking of the same place but I believe they are responsible, well-meaning home owners and will do anything within their means to cooperate. It is not like them to leave trash anywhere, though.

I know LCI was there before but something needs to be done with the backyard of the property including the barn before it falls down. There is not another house in the neighborhood that looks like this.

The house you were thinkong of is the shite one with the porch right next to the driveway. They have also been working on that house for years. The house was originally on the property where 86 Springside Apartments are now. I have pictures of it being moved down to where it is now before apartments were built. A school teacher and her husband owned it and when I was a kid my father and I would shovel their driveway out so the ambulance could bring her husband home from the hospital.
When it was moved, around mid to late 1960's it was a dorm for SCSU. Where the condos are right next to it was a private home owned by the florist whose greenhouses and shop were where the high rises are on the same side of the street.
This neighborhood is where I have lived my entire life. Where both high rises are was all single family houses.

The property was inspected under Housing Code. An order is being issued for the violations.

The make shift fencing was the straw that broke the camels back along with the trash and the barn. I thought it was really tacky and starting to look like a dump.

Close issue for now. They have made their own split rail fencing by cutting down small trees and lashing them together and have cleaned out overgrown bushes in side yard and have cleaned out backyard so they have made an effort. The barn is still standing and I think that is unsafe but they have also tried to do something with that.

I see that someone else has made a report on the property. Fencing is as they say inappropriate and is just small trees cut down and tied together to look like a split rail fence. Tall bushes on side of house have been cleaned out but cars are parked in backyard which was clean but is now filling up with junk again. The whole issue of the barn is ridiculous. It has been falling down for the past 2 years since a car ran onto it.
During the spring and especially the summer barbecues, parties and even a wedding reception have been held on the front lawn
This is totally inappropriate and drags the whole neighborhood down. The only thing missing is a menagerie. I have lived in thi

Barn is still standing but I dont know how. Backyard and front yards have been cleaned up but because cars are parked in backyard, the occupants of the home continue to party, barbecue, have breakfast under a make shift canopt and gave even set up a huge party tent the length of the house and have had a party, not the first, on the front lawn. Last year they even had a childs kiddie pool on the front lawn.
This should not be done on the front lawn.
