I think I know the home in question. It used to be a large boarding home that was falling apart for many years and was finally purchased many years ago by a large, very nice family that has been working on it ever since. They are constantly trying to improve it but it is such a huge place that they have to take it in small parts and have been working front to back. The fencing was probably rotten and fell apart and they cleaned out much of the bamboo on their property which makes the back visible to those on Springside Avenue. Many of the homes on Hard Street date back to 1875, were neglected for a long time when New Haven was abandoned, and the homes were sold for $30-$60,000. I live in a condo on that street and have problems because many owners cannot afford the preventive maintenance necessary to keep up these structures. I am not certain I am thinking of the same place but I believe they are responsible, well-meaning home owners and will do anything within their means to cooperate. It is not like them to leave trash anywhere, though.
