i was going through the crosswalk with my son and holding my bike. this lady was speeding along as i was almost to the double yellow line. I had no choice but to stop quickly and my bike went forward a foot or two into the lane. she screeched the brakes and then looked at me as if i did something wrong.

It's the same thing on Lake in front of the Hampton Inn. And then if a car DOES stop, the people behind it honk their horns as if they are stopped for no reason.

Would it be possible to begin a safety campaign to keep Saratoga Springs a pedestrian-friendly town?
Our elected leaders need to step-up here. A community of this size SHOULD be family friendly enough that children and adults who choose to walk can do so safely without being perceived as a nuisance for those who choose to drive.
Our narrow streets are NOT designed like the interstate. Drivers need to allow enough travel time to their destinations to allow for pedestrians, traffic, and school zones.
Again, more patrols will deter speeding. How difficult is that?

I'm in full agreement with everything that has been written. I walk my children to school each day, and the lack of respect drivers have for pedestrians is shocking. My family and I specifically purchased a home within walking distance of downtown Saratoga Springs. But sometimes I wonder if it's worth it, since we seem to always be risking our lives just to walk from point A to point B.

Agree with all the comments. My children play at East Side Rec and attended Lake Ave Elementary. The city needs a stop sign at East Side and the Elementary School. The crosswalks simply don't work and they are dangerous for children, who often think people will stop.
