These trucks make my windows shake and often times are travelling well above the speed limit and can barely slow down for the stop sign at Dart and Stone. Many times these heavy equipment truck AND tractor trailers are passing thru well into the late evening hours. Signs are clearly marked and ignored. These signs are here do to the death of a pedestrian years ago and the trucks are supposed to use Newfield Street

Trucks are still cutting through neighborhood. About 20 trucks an hour. Seems to be really bad on Saturday mornings. I have contacted the police department on numerous occasions and even left a voicemail with the head of traffic as the traffic division voicemail is full and won't accept any more voicemails. The mailbox has been full for weeks now. We need this issue taken care of before it gets worse.

Any chance you're able to have seen the name of the company on the truck?
@Al what days can you say is the most common that the trucks pass through Stone St? You mentioned Saturdays, any other day we should be aware of?

The company names are not always viewable as they speed by. The busiest times of day are mornings and the highest volume does seem to be Saturday mornings. The truck traffic does continue thru the afternoon and seems to taper off in early evening.
Last Saturday I happened to pull out behind one and the truck got onto 84E, traveling past East Hartford (I happened to be going that way as well). The name on that particular truck was Mello Movement LLC (?)
This truck traffic has opened the door to a few 18 wheelers cutting thru, following behind these dump trucks.

Essentially Mon-Sat you can count on truck traffic.

The 18 wheelers are more and more frequent late in the evening Walmart trucks and trucks going to data mail. Saturdays are especially heavy traffic with the dump trucks.

A lot of the trucks are coming in and out of Tilcon /Tomasso ( old Balf quarry ) I see purple trucks either saying KLM or Kml ...Almost all are exceeding the 25 hr speed limit

Most of the offenders are 80,000 pound dump trucks loading at Tilcon making numerous runs per day. They are various companies and times are hard to pinpoint. I'll try to get company names and plate numbers.

We wanted to follow up and let you know the community service officer of the area has been in contact with Tilcon and passed along to their employees and drivers about their trucks passing through Stone St and made them aware that it is a no thru truck zone. Several trucks drivers have been stopped and made aware of the clear signs on both ends of the street of no trucks thru the street.

Thank you for the update, I suspect it may have something to do with Channel 3 contacting them about this issue.
Hopefully this enforcement will continue.

the issue is not going to be resolved by talking to tilcon..the issue will be resolved when there is police activity enforcing the violators by ticketing . Not just one day but often. The signs are there for a reason,.this is a residential R7 neighborhood. The trucks are supposed to use New Britain ave to Newfield ( and vice versa) that is commercial street . And its a shame that not one but three complaints to 311 were unresolved and channel 3 had to be contacted to expose the issue at hand and lack of city response.

KML is a repeat offender .I have advised one driver in particular of the the signs and that he was not supposed to use the street as a "cut through" and he said "so what ..who's going to do anything about it "

I believe there used to be a "bottleneck" speed table at the bottom of the hill which discouraged this type of thing
Maybe it needs to be brought back...
Probably an NRZ issue now that requesting speed bumps has to be done through them

The truck traffic slowed up a little after the story ran on Channel 3, however every day the amount of trucks coming thru seem to be multiplying again.
Yes there were several different strategies that were put into place years ago while they were working on making Stone St a "No Thru Trucks". Maybe it is time to revisit some of those strategies. I'll take a look into that. Thanks.

Glad to help any way I can. I posted a notice to residents elsewhere on here to get the gridlock opened up on New Britain Ave. & Newfield which leads to Flatbush & is close to the 84 onramp. It may be a way to free up traffic on Stone Street. If you'd like we can work together to request more comprehensive action from the City. I'll look into what we can do.

This is ridiculous ! How long does this issue have to manned by us as opposed to the city?
A simple fix is to get police cars out there ticketing and enforcing this , not warning the
offenders ! Also maybe DMV as I'm sure quite a few of this trucks are well over the weight
limits. The trucks are there ...every day !

The traffic is increasing again. They come at all hours of the day. I stopped a pair of dump trucks on my way home the other night, blocking them with my car-I insisted they go another way. I then called the company listed on the truck and complained.

This issue is not being addressed consistently by the city or the police department. The trucking companies know this and are abusing it.

This is VERY frustrating.

I encourage everyone to attend the NRZ meeting in Sept..usually city officials as well as a police rep are present . This is unbelievable ...and how long since a comment from the city on this ? Apparently the city is waiting ( God forbid ) another accident with one of these trucks. I'm calling DMV

NRZ meeting for August was cancelled. Next meeting according their website is 9/16/14 @ 5pm. Held at the Lyceum, 227 Lawrence St.

truck in the evening 8/26 and 8/27...last night 15 of them between 9pm and midnight..several went right through the stop sign ant dart with out even trying to stop and some we screeching brakes trying to stop because they were traveling way too fast and way above the 25 mph speed limit ..this is insane at this point ! what is it going to take to get some help ???? I left a message for the traffic division at HPD this morning at 8:00am...not expecting any response . This is sad
that the city will actually wait for an accident with one of the trucks (God forbid) before they do anything .

@ Elizabeth. I called and left messages with the traffic division supervisor months ago before all this started with no response. I'm surprised you actually were able to leave a message as the mailbox was full all the times I tried. I think 311 is looking the other way at this point. The police dept is either understaffed, I guess 500 cops in the city is not enough, or just don't care. If this isn't resolved after the NRZ meeting I'm willing to take this to the next step.

well a good way to start dealing with the ATV issue is to get a better response from police dispatchers, who in turn would actually dispatch police officers. People get tired of calling because of a lack of police response. I'm more concerned with the heavy equipment traffic on my street that is ALREADY zoned NO THRU TRUCKS and NEVER enforced

The police department is aware of the complaints and have sent notification through the department that this is an area of emphasis. Enforcement activities are ongoing and we anticipate that
the shutting down of the asphalt plants in the next month or so will also help.
Deputy Chief Joe Buyak and Lieutenant Rob Allan are both closely monitoring the situation and are in touch with the NRZ.

There has been no change since the meeting . Truck traffic was especially heave all day Saturday . One repeat offender Mello moving out of east Hartford .. I stopped next to the driver pointed out the sign told him he's not supposed to be on the street . His response : are you the police ?
