The lack of adjacent homeowner maintenance of the sidewalk in front of their property required by City code is causing a safety concern on Fentress Ave. Pedestrians with strollers and wheeled wagons are forced into the street. Since the sidewalk is mostly covered with sand and turf, folks looking for parking believe it is a good place to park because it doesnt much look like a sidewalk and the no parking signs are not seen or ignored. This forces walking pedestrians into the street. The result is beach goers walking down the middle of the street where there is barely enough room for two cars to pass. Almost ever good weather day, police are called to this area to enforce no parking restrictions and many cars have been towed. This is a repeat complaint that was received by Code Enforcement, but nothing was done or property owners ignored Code Enforcement officers. My undererstanding is that if City Code Enforcement issues a notice and property owner ignors, the City can have the sidewalk cleaned and billed to that property owner.
