I live very close to this intersection and ever since the new lights were installed, my husband and I have said the intersection is "an accident waiting to happen". We have seen numerouse letters in "soundoff" commenting on the lights also so we know we are not alone in our concerns. We feel it will take someone (or several people) getting killled before someone pays attention to the danger of these new signals. I am often stopped on 23 Mile Rd in the left turn lane heading eastbound and have a red arrow. The light then turns red for the traffic heading eastbound on 23 Mile Rd. The left turn arrow changes from red to yellow - you can be fooled into thinking you can begin turning with caution when actually the westbound traffic on 23 Mile Rd. still has a green light (whereas the eastbound traffic has a red light). Why should it take someone getting killed before something is done. I have read an article in the Macomb Daily several months ago interviewing the people who were involved in making the changes to the "new signals" and they pretty much said they were not going to change a thing!

Maybe when the state gets sued a few times they will investigate the new lights!
Call Sam or Lee Free! If I am ever involved in an accident where they have camera controlled lights, I will seek legal action!

According to 2010 accident statistics published in Shelby/Utica News on March 9th,:

23 mile & Schoenherr accidents INCREASED 30% from 2009 to 2010 (49 to 64)

21 Mile & Schoenherr, accidents INCREASED 50% from 2009 to 2010 (34 to 51)

Sgt. Cazabon of Shelby Police: "We're seeing an increase in the number of accidents...at all intersections where they have the new lights up".

Yet they keep claiming that these lights are "SAFER" and more "EFFICIENT"?????

There are MORE accidents...statistics don't lie! Traffic backups, particularly at the 23/Schoenherr and 22/Hayes intersections, have INCREASED since they were installed, s

keep in mind when looking at the numbers...they are comparing 2009 to 2010. These lights were only installed in the fall of 2010. So you've got increases of 34%-50% in just a few months! I can only imagine what the numbers will be after these lights have been installed for a full year!

my son was in an accident at this light and his car was totaled. The gentlemen that hit him didn't understand the lights, i dont understand this new lights, until i too was almost hit someone . Why do we have a blinking yellow, blinking red, red and Green arrows..Please Educate your state or city before installing these new lights..The poor man didnt understand what he had done wrong..The need to go back to the old system ...I think the problem is the new lights. And at night you can be going 50mph and the light just turned green and before you know it it is turning red...because a car came to the light going different direction...PLEASE CHANGE THIS LIGHT AND IT SENSORS.

Even though I've been driving for many years, I am confused with several left turn arrows now. The one on southbound Hayes at 22 Mile is crazy. Who came up with this idea? Every light is different. I have a 16 year old daughter driving around so this issues has me concerned for her safety. Change them back to the old PREDICTABLE way they were before,

THIS NEEDS REPAIR !!!!! Left turn lane Arrow changes to red as you yield to oncoming traffic because yellow arrow goes to red!!! Green for this arrow is anyone's best guess ;-( very dangerous!
