I have noticed this recently also.

Dekalb county only put up a light when the major constriction was in progress on US 78 aka GA Hwy 10 was being widened prior to the 1996 Olympics to ease traffic flow to the Tennis complex and Archery competion at Stone Mtn. There was no light before that. Due to the RR Tracks providing a barrier to any south bound traffic the need for the light is at best minimal. The lights could be set to "flash only" during non-peek hours. And like Susan & Matt have observed- drivers who don't want to wait are running the light. Please allow enough time for at least ten to twelve cars to get through. Fortunately not that many are exiting I-285.

I noticed it lets 3-4 cars through if you are going from Milam towards the light. If you are going the other way, from Clarkston, and get stuck at the red light on the other side of the overpass, you will not make the other light in the time it takes to cross 285. Very frustrating!

Whoever changed these lights needs to come out and do some research. It is causing more congestion which in turn creates erratic drivers. The same goes for the traffic signals nearby at E. Ponce de Leon Ave & Glendale Rd too. Please fix!

There are a multitude of poorly timed lights in this part of Dekalb County. Other examples are the series of lights at Lawrenceville Highway and I285 and Lville Highway at North Druid Hills. In the latter case, I often have to wait through three cycles of lights that favor the North Druid Hills direction.

They've changed timing at this intersection a few times this year. Earlier the traffic would back up along the exit ramp. I hope a fair balance will be given. Traffic coming off the exit ramp is one lane that feeds into eastbound and westbound traffic on E. Ponce. When the light is timed to prevent backups at Milam, traffic backs up halfway down the exit ramp, which is a hazard to those near the end of the line.

This is another classic example of why Georgia should focus on "round abouts" to maintain traffic flow. It would definately help to resolve Atlanta's pollution.

I love roundabouts. In Europe there are some two-lane roundabouts.

That said would a roundabout be feasible for this I-285 exit ramp (and the neighboring rail line)?

A smart traffic light would make sense here.

True that during the day and weekends there may not be much traffic on the exit ramp. During rush hour I can assure you that traffic can and has backed up all the way down to 285, which is incredibly dangerous for the cars who are at the back of the line.

Adyra, I'm not sure if a round about could be done, but as DeKalb County, City of Clarkston and The Path folks can tell you....hell would freeze over before CSX cooperated in working with local government & other agencies.

Your 2nd comment is on target. An hour ago (11:00 am) I went east on E Ponce and 3 cars got through the light. Not a soul coming from 285. Several cars in front of me checked to see if anyone was coming from the ramp and proceeded through the red light....happens all the time.

This light should be removed or flashing. As it is, it only creates more traffic.

Lights were fixed which has helped to stop drivers running red lights.
