20th Street NE and 22nd Street NE are both too narrow to support two-way traffic. We have witnessed numerous near-accidents as drivers turn onto these streets from Rhode Island Ave., nearly hitting cars who are pointed southbound about to turn onto Rhode Island. This is because cars park on both sides of the streets, and the streets allow for two-way traffic, essentially cramping 4 lanes into a space barely big enough for 3. It seems like a simple solution would be EITHER to make 20th St. NE a one-way going north, and 22nd St. a one-way going south (or vice versa), OR to eliminate parking on one side of the streets. That area has plenty of street parking as it is. As a Brookland resident, I think this problem should be fixed ASAP to help reduce injuries and accidents in this area.

This has been a problem for a some time and seems to be getting worse both 20th and 22nd streets at the corners especially during the weekdays when cars are parking too close to the corners on these streets. I recommend placing a "no parking" sign to clear the right of way near the corner where there is the problems. This is certainly an easy solution to place a sign 2-car length. I am totally against making 20th and 22nd Streets one-way just for the convenience for commuters using the free parking during the day.

I found out one of the major reasons of the newly increased parking problems on 20th St., at Rhode Island especially during the weekdays. There's a home health training institute between 20th & 22nd and it's the students and employees that are parking on 20th. Also, for the institute, there are medical transport vans that are loading, unloading and waiting for people right at the corner. Something has to be done, but I am not sure who our comments are sent because there is no change and I have not seen a DC parking official evaluating this issue during the hours. I am also not making either 20th or 22nd Streets. one-way, but restricting and enforcing parking at the corners of both streets.

Hi, Yes, this is a problem along the entire 20th from Evarts all the way down to RI Ave. This is getting worst and worst as there are more people moving into the neighborhood. Most of these cars are from out of state and combing with the illegal truck use of 20th, the street is so so narrowly.
I would contact your ANC person as they are there for the neighorhood.

The congested traffic along 20th street has continued over the past 2 years, and perhaps even gotten worse. It seems sensible to make 20th a one-way street, which would allow traffic to flow smoothly. My mirrors have almost been clipped numerous times by aggressive drivers trying to thread the needle through this poorly designed road segment. The only other solution is to restrict parking to one side of the street but that would unfairly penalize the residents of the neighborhood who need to be able to park on both sides.

The streets are way too narrow and missing no parking signs so tickets can't be given out if there are no signages. I also put in request for nonparking signs that's too close to the intersection. Heard nothing back. And months later, these tickets would be closed with no resolution. This is a constant problem and I been putting in tickets about the large trucks that are not supposed to be using 20th at all. I have seen also the trucks clipped the trees as they are too tall for the trees!! Anyways. It's kind of pointless. I can't get anyone to do anything about it. I have tried with ANC and council. We are not prime Brookland so no one cares.

Dont worry too much. There is a parking officer paying close attention to that area. I know cause i recieved numerous tickets there. Lol

I have witnessed giant trucks barreling down this narrow residential road. Very disturbing as it is so close to the school and park it would seem zoned parking will be essential to keep the residence including the children safe.

This is a constant problem where illegal 18 wheelers are using 20th to cut thru. I have raised this issues with the anc and ddot. They don’t care.
