Any word from the inspectors? Just saw Mayor Leng’s FB Post about more funding for sidewalk repair. Will Caroline St finally be on the repair list for this summer?

We are currently still evaluating Caroline Street. We have not final set the list for this year's repairs. Our contractors are anticipated to come back to town in early July.

Based on our inspection of the condition of the sidewalk, this site been elevated to our claims list. Our contractors are anticipated back soon. We are scheduling the site as our on call contractors become available and we work through the claims list. Please be aware we schedule our claims list on a triage basis and handle the worst first.

Our contractors are working through the claims list currently. We have Caroline Street on the claims list and are awaiting a contractor to become available to address the concerns.
We are currently in northern Hamden addressing tornado damage and then will be back to the other locations. We anticipate the tornado damage will take 1 to 2 weeks to complete.

I last asked about status in Oct of last year. Our sidewalks were put on the claim list last July - any updates on when they will get repaired? They really need attention. Thanks...

Caroline Street remains on the claims list. We have used up our sidewalk repair monies that have been allocated on worse condition sidewalks. Please feel free to call the office during normal business hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. M_F and we will be happy to answer any questions in detail.

Will there be more $ for sidewalk repair in this coming year or will we have to wait even longer. These problems were reported back in 1989, they were inspected and the neighbors were told the sidewalks were going to be repaired right away. No one ever came!!!! That was 30 years ago. The sidewalks are in even worse shape now. Please give us a sense of when there will be a new budget allocated for sidewalk repair. Thanks...

We have requested more for the next capital allocation.

All Town departments submit our annual capital improvement budgets in January of each year. The Capital Budget is part of the annual budget process. The process determines how much money is available and how much the Mayor and the Legislative Council can approve.

No one wants to see their tax bills rise. The Mayor and Legislative Council have to make very hard decisions on how much money goes where. We, at the department level, try very hard to make what we get go as far as possible.

I noticed the Mayor posted about sidewalk repairs being done around the Keefe Center and there also seems to be some new sections on Morris Street near us. Caroline St is on the claims list. Can you let us know when we might see repairs done here? They are badly needed especially along Caroline up the hill from Morris St and the end of the driveway in front of 55 Caroline. An additional $100,000 has been approved by the Council via LoCIP funding. There is a process to getting the approval of the money from the State. Once it is approved, we will be assigning more sites to be worked on.

We have released almost $350,000 for construction (both amounts of money had location restrictions) and once this work is completed and the commitment to fund comes from the State, we can assign more work. We anticipate a month or so for both of those factors to be resolved..

Our neighbor walks unsteadily with a cane and as she walks down the hill has to stop short where the sidewalk falls off and then step around it. My husband in the dark almost fell. Please let us know when they'll finally be repaired. Caroline St especially the stretch from Morris to 55 Caroline St. are really in need of repairs and the street is on the claims list. Thanks...

The Legislative Council has begun the process to approve money for sidewalks. The first approval (Committee) was conducted on September 3rd for two allocations. The second meeting is scheduled for September 16th. If at the second meeting (regular Council agenda) the requests are approved, then we will apply for the LoCIP money from the state and the 21 day required open period will begin for the bonding request. there are two requests in for funds.

After the funds are secured, we will release purchase orders for the contractors. Given the soonest that this can occur is some time in October, we are then dependent on the availability of the contractors and the weather.

Hello! Just saw the article in Patch that the town has a $250,000 grant approved by the town council for sidewalks. I know you have to line up contractors but just wanted to know if Caroline St is on the list for this round of repairs. As I’ve explained in the past our sidewalks were damaged by uprooted trees way back in the tornado in 1989. They were inspected back then and approved for repairs but they’ve never been repaired. Can you let us know if we’ll get them repaired this time? Thank you!

Yes, Caroline Street is on the claims list. Unfortunately, we do not have a schedule for construction yet. First, we need the State to approve our request. I have received many mixed messages from multiple sources on how long it will take to get the money approved. That is why I cannot give you an accurate date. We have to get the money before we can authorize work. (we are working with one group that has been held up on a similar funding source, not the same one, since mid spring.)

On Friday someone from Southern CT Gas came and marked the gas lines on our street. He said it’s because we’re about to get a new sidewalk on Caroline St. Yay!!! I’m writing to find out when work is scheduled to start? Thanks!

We can confirm that the purchase order for the work is being released.

We do not have a solid date on when the contractor will start or finish because of weather. Concrete is temperature and rain sensitive. We anticipate construction to begin within the next two weeks and we are hoping to be completed (shy of grass growing) before December.

Hello, Last year the sidewalks on our side (the north side) of upper Caroline St were repaired but weather prevented the work planned for the other side. The marks for where the sidewalk should be repaired on that side are still there and the end of several driveways haven’t been done on that side. We saw sidewalks being repaired yesterday on Blake Rd and wondered when they might finish the work on Caroline St? Thanks!

We have been in winter shut down up until a few weeks ago. (mostly because of temperature), The crews are working again and should be able to complete the assigned work within the area shortly.

We are temperature and weather dependent. If it gets below 40F or rains too hard, we have to delay work. At this point it is days delays rather than months which happens over the winter.
