Sometime within the past 24 hours (I beleive), someone stenciled "Please Don't Feed The Animals - MGMT" on the back of a Wrong Way sign as you come off the Exit 5 Ramp on 91 North.

When I say "on the back" of the Wrong Way sign, clearly that means it is visible to every driver exiting 91.

It's a bit of a cruel marking given the panhandling at this very exit. (I personally think the response to the homeless issue in that vicinity is deplorable and a disservice to residents, property owners, and the homeless themselves, but that's no reason for this type of graffiti).

Bad look for our city, please remove immediately. I don't care if it's technically state property since it's a highway exit.

i recognize your extrapolation and possibly i do tend to agree but who actually says that's what the graffiti refers to... perhaps you are reading into things or putting your own judgments into it. perhaps it is just graffiti, not a message. then again......

I hope that the city gets their priorities straight here. First, stop the panhandling. Then clean up graffiti.

Still there here is a picture from yesterday. We may not like them at the corner asking for money but I think that the sign is really offensive, not human at all.

^ My point exactly. No reason to portray people as sub-human. I'm as tired as anyone of the area being littered, the spike in petty crime in the highest-taxed residential areas of the city, and some of the more aggressive panhandlers who force traffic to stop and block you in your car (which the guy at this exit does not seem to do), but people are still humans.

I think that the exit ramp is technically state property, so I doubt anything will happen. Look at anything else around New Haven that the state *should* be maintaining.

the same folks that are disturbing traffic begging are taking those dollars, buying drugs, and destabilizing the neighborhood. As this continues to be tolerated, the volume of home and auto break ins is also increasing. We need to stop the cycle.

Thanks for the post. I've spoken with the CTDOT sign maintenance division and hopefully they will be able to address this issue promptly. As suggested in the comments, this is state property and CTDOT does not monitor this site. For any future sign issues on highways, ramps, or state roads, they clarified that the best way to reach them in via phone at (203)407-0522. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
