Description
Jersey City has placed a trash can on the corner of Third St. and Jersey Ave. by the Key Foods. The city has not emptied the can and it is overflowing with trash. Stop offering laim excuses, ie it's household trash, and do your damn jobs. There is zero reason for overflowing trash cans. If you refuse to empty the trash and offer poor excused, THEN STOP POLUTING OUR CITY WITH STOP THE DROP SIGNS. How do you expect to stop the drop when the place to drop your trash is full doesn't exist.

I've been actively monitoring the 5 neighborhood cans over the past week. To some degree, illegal dumping of household trash does contribute to the volume in the cans on 3rd and Jersey. That said, the concern has been a bit overblown. The majority of what is there is legitimate litter. That results from not being emptied frequently enough.
I'm all for trying a different design if that'll help mitigate the illegal dumping and overflow, but the bar for service level and schedule needs to be raised too if these are to succeed.
To add to what others have said, I was in New York City last weekend and saw not one overflowing can (and we were there walking for over 6 hours). I'm sure they face the same challenges (probably worse, in fact, due to density), but they seem to have overcome them. Why can't we have nice things in Jersey City too?

I'm a little confused as to why an overflowing trash can issue that was reported over a MONTH AND A HALF AGO (August 22nd) is only now being acknowledged.
Is this is response to the "big belly" trash can portion of the thread? Is the City considering getting them? If so, then clarifying this would be helpful.
