Description
Every evening when I leave work to drive north on St. Mary's Street in the block just north of Hillsborough, I feel like I am playing chicken. There are cars parked from at least 5:30 to 6:30 pm on both sides of the street, and it is very difficult to tell if you have clearance to pass between them when a car (or even more so a bus) is heading south in that block. It is very scary!! Please put a double yellow line in the center of the street so drivers can know they are on their side of the center!!

Please do not put a double yellow line in the center of the street. The presence of a lot of parked cars shows that that is a high activity area. Slowing down, and stopping to yield to oncoming traffic (as per state driving regulations), is a wonderful traffic calming device for that block. And best of all, as the cars go away when the high activity period ends, so does the traffic calming.
The road narrows and per driving regulations you have to provide sufficient, safe clearing to side obstacles, so a double yellow line will be crossed anyway. Forget the line, just follow the driving regulations you learned in order to get an NC driver license. Let the bus pass, or take another thoroughfare.
