Please do not put a double yellow line in the center of the street. The presence of a lot of parked cars shows that that is a high activity area. Slowing down, and stopping to yield to oncoming traffic (as per state driving regulations), is a wonderful traffic calming device for that block. And best of all, as the cars go away when the high activity period ends, so does the traffic calming.

The road narrows and per driving regulations you have to provide sufficient, safe clearing to side obstacles, so a double yellow line will be crossed anyway. Forget the line, just follow the driving regulations you learned in order to get an NC driver license. Let the bus pass, or take another thoroughfare.

It is a lot of fun in the morning too; during school drop off for Wiley 8:45-9:15. Especially with all the parents dropping off kids at the daycare there across from St. Mary's School. Then you have cars and pedestrians crossing in the middle of the block.

This area is a problem any time of the day. Too much parking allowed on both sides of the street where it is too narrow to accommodate two-way traffic + parking on both sides of the street!!

I reported this two years ago and there was a lot of people saying 'don't put a line there' along with some comments that were in support. The city setup a traffic study and concluded thete hadnt been enough accidents to warrant a double yellow line. Nevermind being proactive and listening to complaints and stories of fearful drivers and pedestrians. I think that some of the on-street parking zones would have to be eliminated if a line was put down and some folks have a vested interest in keeping that parking around, thus their opposition? Seems logical to mark it like 99% of other streets.

Yes, I've been to Rome and Paris. So what? The condescending tone of your comment disregards the fact that many people remain concerned about the road markings. Your comment is also a logical failure; the lack of line markings in rome or paris doesn't have anything to do with St. Mary's street. Also, I'm quite sure many of the people who feel like lane markings here are also 'smart.' Thanks for the comments though!
