As you know, these fumes are carried by the direction and frequency of the wind. It is of no comfort or benefit to send the fire department to the plant where very seldom they find noxious odors as they have already blown our way.
This is a long standing, problem that affects our health, quality of life & property values. It is of no comfort to the community to have talking heads from PPG corporate present their statistics to the neighborhood showing they are allegedly in compliance with federal law. We, the suffering residents know we are being harmed & as taxpayers & property owners, we deserve better. It is past due time for action.
To say the fire crews didn’t detect any smell is to indirectly say that everyone is imagining the toxic smell that looms over our neighborhood on a regular basis. It doesn’t make sense. It’s not in our heads. It happens at least once a month if not more, lasts for hours, and causes me a headache to the point that I don’t want to stay outside for any extended period of time. Just because the fire crew gets there hours after it’s subsided doesn’t mean it was never present. Is there ANY potential solution to this problem, or will we continue ignoring it until it compounds into worse, more chronic issues?
I saw the fire truck drive past that day and had no idea that was what they were there for. I wish EMS could fix it but that was a waste of their time. Most often the smell is strongest at night or early morning here. I think it’s the telephone poll place not the paint place I’m smelling but who knows for sure. If you walk the neighborhood at about 7 AM you can’t miss it. From my experience: Some days (rare) it’s all day. Some days (more common) it’s intense in the evenings. Most mornings it’s pretty harsh.
I hope that helps.
