The problem lies in the people in town who own snow machines, then ride them to the trail, as opposed to hauling them to the trail then riding.

I think the trail south of Marquis Rd is still outside city property.

Well Hermy the snowmobile club shut down the Bypass route years ago.The Bypass route was used for snowmobilers to obtain fuel,food,lodging and access to snowmobile dealers.The club saw the city expansion would hinder the trail we closed it . The city was also not interested in helping the snowmobile club keeping the 90 million $$$ industry coming into Prince Albert.We Had an agreement with the city which which was passed through city council,the agreement included that we held the insurance through the SSA.The city and the club purchased a groomer in 95 and sold it several years later as it was not large enough unit.So grooming has not been done since about 2000.

The groomer was sold too the PA Mushers club and the city was repaid their monies.Because we shut the trails down the by-law was changed back to where no snowmobiles or Rec. Vehicles where allowed within the city limits . The city was too maintain a snowmobile drop-off on 15th ave and marquis rd.

I'd put a bigger priority on the noise that motorcycles make rather than snowmachine occasionally making their way out of town.
Or the noise from Boom Boxes cranked inside cars with the windows rolled down.

I live by the park on Erickson Crescent and there are quads, vehicles and snowmachines going through the park. The police try but by the time they get there, the offenders are gone. Just common decency - don't drive your machines through a city park.

By the end of the year, the fields are almost 100% compacted.

As a long time snowmobiler it drives me nuts how some people who own snowmobiles disrespect people and property .Another is how people let small kids drive sleds without supervision.Several years ago two small kids crossed marquis road and hit a car ,both where under 12.Come on people use your machines with the respect of others but enjoy the sport with safety in mind.

the groomer coming too the airport belongs to candle lake club and Christopher lake comes too the skidoo dealer.After we sold our groomer in the city we paid both clubs too groom too PA.It befitting everyone.All trails have too be registered with the SSA and any time a groomer crosses the highway each club has too have the ok from highways.Grooming private property has too be a signed agreement between the club and land owner.

my neighbors rip up the back alley all the time in the winter, after dark! coming within inches of hitting peoples fences / cars. i have phoned by-law numerous times and nothing gets done..but when these people are ripping past my fence they call and complain about my dog barking at them!!!! they rip up the alley in the summer on dirt bikes too! when will someone do something about it???

Well last year I talked to Ken Hunter with Bylaw and SSA that candle was still even posting sighs and grooming right up to the airport giving people a sense of safety thinking it was ok to ride into the city.ken did not realize that this was going on.
Another issue that candle would being paid by the SSA for grooming trails into the city which is against city bylaws.My worry was some one getting pinched for riding on a trail which was against the city bylaws.I don't disagree that sleds are being used in the city on a regular basis.my neighbor even does it.He knows it's wrong but he does it anyway.

This city needs to stop making criminals out of good people. You should be allowed to use recreational vehicles if you are going from home , directly out of town. This would promote atv/snowmobile use and bring tourists to PA. This is done in cities like Meadow Lake and Whitecourt and it works fine. It is ridiculous to have to load up on a trailer to go for a ride when you can just drive out 5 or 6 blocks to the edge of town and go. Get with the times already.

I've got no problems with snowmobiles driving within city limits. I'm not saying take a drive down 15th st. but come on what does it hurt going down the ditch on Marquis or what about the dealers that need to demo sleds. To just blatantly say no snowmobiles is a little ridiculous.

I am curious what the problem is? Is it the noise, is it the speed at which they are riding, is it licencing? Sleds are/should be licenced, can be ridden respectfully and are only really noisy if you want them to be. If you are riding down the alley to get to your destination, I am not sure what the problem is. I have seen and heard many car, trucks and motorcycles driven much more recklessly than some sleds, and they are alot louder!
The part I do have a problem with is some sledders disregard for private property. Just becasue a piece of land has snow on it, doesn't mean it's fair game. So even if the city got on board like atvrider said that Meadow Lake and others have, where do you go once you reach the end of the alley......

It is the disrespect for other people,which is why we have laws period.If people would respect other people and property we would not need most of the laws we have,No matter what you drive as soon as people get a license to drive it is some peoples thoughts, that i can do what I want .it is about ME!
Driving in a small town has rules also and their situation is different in regards to example, population.
We had proper trails in the city but i guess that meant for some people you can go any where. We had sighs stolen which led two people getting injured on the trails,lucky no-one was sued. Even though there is a fine for removing sighs and They don't like them or they wanted them for there garage i guess as long as the needs of the individual is met the hell with everyone else.

The atmosphere of 'respect' seems to have changed greatly over the last few years and I think riverview hit the nail on the head, it really is an all about me society these days! Unfortunately it's the few that wreck it for the majority. As far as following the law, just look at the cell phone example. I can't count how many cars I have followed weaving all over the road because they are yaking on the phone or texting. I guess that annoying law doesn't apply to them!

There are no groomed trails in the city,by a snowmobile club.Candle Lake grooms from Candle Lake to PA.They are not too groom in the city,but I have noticed that they have gone too the airport by mistake.The club and BYlaw have been informed.

call the cops then! Call the SSA they govern the trails in the province.I am sure everytime a snowmobile travels by the mill you can hear it in your living room!

there are acreage out north east of the city, north of the airport and east along the highway that pay a LOT of taxes, and get NOTHING for that.
Then to top it off, they have to listen to the incredibly loud whine of machines flying along the highway.
Ilive 4km off the highway, and don't hear them but when they are withing a km or so, at night, they are loud and clear.

I'll tell you what, how about at 3AM, I'll ask one of those drivers to sit in front of YOUR house and wind their machine open for... oh.... say 15 minutes or so. See how YOU like it.

All I am asking for is for snowmobilers to have a little respect.... but I fear that isn't going to happen with their incredible sense of entitlement!

seems the Club has ignored the City Bylaws, and snubbed their noses at the taxpayers of Prince Albert again this year.

many cities in our province allow snowmobile trails with-in city limits. Hosting snowmobile trails is all about safety, safety for the residents and the snowmobilers. have snowmobile routs allows access to services such as gas food and lodging. Snowmobile routs with in city limits will assist in snowmobiles running all over the city and upsetting residents. Rest assured snowmobilers will continue to operate snowmobiles with in the city limits with out the routs, but its best for the city to develope, sign and host routs with in the city, even if they are not groomed. safety of everyone must be considered.

I agree snow safety we had a bypass route in pa and the council at the time did not give us much support for an improved system we moved.We went riding instead.Now you have people riding in the city and riding dangerous. Yorkton city buys signs and city staff puts them out. They like the 100 milloin $$ snowmbile industry.

I am sure there is no snubbing of anyone. The trails where allowed in the city for many years and when the PA club shut down their service the candle lake club continued providing a service to this 100 million $$ industry in this province.The only signs where along the mill highway which appear to only bother a few or maybe one person.
With consultation with the city, candle lake club,and the SSA all sighs will be taken down as the where inadvertently being placed by the club to continue this service.The proper clearance was given for the club to continue these trails.
The volunteers that look after these trails are members of the community and your neighbors,do not condemn people for giving up their time for the safety of snowmobilers ,and the taxes they pay ever time they start their sleds.
As everywhere one goes someone abuses the system and if they did we would not need the traffic act and the criminal code.
So the Thinker ,the bylaw enforcement team,city police the SSA and the club en-volved dropped the ball and it is now rectified, now the snowmobilers will not be on a groomed,marked trail they who will still ride the ditches at their owned risk.

If the club ran a trail in front of my place, on public land, I'd accept it, as my RM has no bylaw barring this.
But I don't like them driving IN my yard on my front lawn. This attitude is going to force me to post my land.
The Club could take the trail up the tote road NEward towards Hwy2. Or through the Nisbet Forest towards the west.
With the few extra hectares of crown land we have in this province, I'd think there would be somewhere trails could be developed without impinging on Others Rights to Safetly, and some peace and quiet, interupted by the occasional REASONABLE noise. (which the snowmachines with open pipes are NOT)

I understand the people out there who disregard peoples property and the sound barrier issue.There are not alot with pipes but the few that inflict it on others is disrespectful. Making trails is a tough job,and takes money, so when you have an easy route as the government ditches it is a no brainer. At this time there is a limit on the trails, no more can be constructed under the SSA. ,as the funding for the trails comes from the plates and fundraising $$$.
Riding on public land is permitted but on private permission and to be obtained by the owner.A trail through private needs a approval from the land owner and a contract is signed by all which resolve the land owner of responsibility ,and the insurance is carried by the SSA,which how we obtained a bypass in the city.
theThnker not sure about your comments ,but we have a snowmobile act in the province and like any law has to be followed ,but we lawbreakers that don't follow them so they have to be caught.

We have to work together for education of those laws and the responsibility of the operators.

now, is there ongoing work to increase the number of trails that skirt the city? As I said, the tote road would work to go west, and could, with other roads, bring them around to the other side of Nordale.

also, I believe trails, properly groomed and located, are far better than the haphazzard riding in the fields back and forth. The noise, along the trails, while obnoxious, is usually short lived, except where there is a concentration of machines, like near the airport.

I own a couple fields near my house, and don't have an issue of machines crossing the fields if they keep going (stay out of the yard please) But the sheer number as you get closer to the city are the bigger concern regarding noise.

The airport was the point of access towards the trail that continued cross the river through ruzkowski's hill.because of the development in the area(we where privy to info about city growth). we decided to drop the trails at that time,.
Because of the impact to the city with tourism ,because like i said it is almost a 100 million $$ tourism in the province.Last year there was 40,165 snowmobiles sold in Saskatchewan last year alone and only 9,980 registered in 2011,what does that tell you. 7 billion industry in canda. 23 billion in the US.100000 full time jobs in this sport in canada.. Somtime money is more important than some noise but small towns would not survive without it.
I would suggest you send an e-mail to the mayor as there is some talk about a trails for the city but not as it was before.Comments from the public and suggestions may help with problem areas. We had to modify some ares the years we operated our route to least impact the public.
The Candle Lake club has been instructed to remove the signs .

All Bikers used to be drug dealers and thugs and we know that not to be true! Well snowmobilers did not have a good rap and it took some doing to change that perception,but some make it hard.

update - about 16,000 sled registerd province wide in 2011/12 season, trails are the answer, this keeps sleds on routes and often away from homes, but always hotdogs out there making it bad for the good ones, installing pipes and upsetting people. the answer here is to have the city allow ther trails and maybe the city put some routes back in with just the signage, city routes maybe don't have to be groomes

info was taken from ISMA ,SSA figures where not at hand when these figures where given. The Bypass route was not groomed it was just a way for sleds to get to services. We tried but our Groomer was not the best,so we sold it.At the end we could not get help from the city with the trails so we packed it in.

The way I see it is the people that are complaining about the snowmobilers have nothing better to do with there lives but to sit around and @#$% about everything. It's time these people got off there @#$% and had a little fun! If your going to ride in the city show some respect for others and if people's land says no trespassing then stay off! Ride safe and keep her skinny side up!

Actually thinker I don't ride in the city I trailer mine out of city limits and I don't ride on posted land. But you have to realize that people riding in the city is never going to stop . People have been riding snowmobiles through the city for years it's just the way it is I can guaranty that it is not just the youth braking this foolish law. I think our law enforcement has a lot worse crime to deal with than snowmobilers in our city. Do you complain about the loud motorcycles , trucks, cars and stereos that role the city all the time as well?
