Deskripsyon

There is a large Homeless Encampment near 40 / 401 interchange. This is creating a public safety issue due individuals routinely coming out of the woods and crossing traffic (not at the stop light) while traffic is moving. It is difficult to see these pedestrian until they are in the road due to them coming out of the woods where a driver is not expecting a pedestrian to.be crossing/entering the road.

There are numerous people walking in and out of traffic in this area. It’s creates a hazard for the pedestrians and other motorist that are almost being hit from vehicles trying to avoid the pedestrians. Driving through there last week I saw 3 people ducking and dodging through traffic towards what appears to be the entrance to this encampment. This is also causing an issues of people fanning out from the encampment to the local businesses and homes. A homeless gentleman is squatting on my neighbors property and sleeping near my trash cans on Pecan road. It appears the city is complacent with this encampment as there is a City of Raleigh Refuse bin at the entrance and visible from the street

This problem is continuing to become worse. I had to call the police today because what appears to be 3-4 homeless citizens slept on my porch overnight. My porch is about a 30 second drive from this on Pecan Rd. There were small alcohol wipe/packets which leads me to believe there was drug use occurring. Does the city have a plan to address this growing public safety concern?

I have had trouble in the area by this encampment. I have had to dodge people walking in the road and even into the Sam’s club parking lot. I have literally had several homeless people come up to my vehicle in the Sam’s club parking lot asking for money and cigarettes. I am feeling less safe in this area every time I travel there. I think the businesses in this area are going to start feeling the consequences of this nearby encampment soon. I am already second-guessing whether I really need to go to Sam’s Club or should I just shop elsewhere.

The trash surrounding this area has significantly increased which is also health issue to the area and surrounding creek
