I have a couple other comments about this property, I have never seen so many kids from other neighborhoods coming to play in this junkyard. There has been a rash of Bike thefts reported and there is a pile of bikes two feet high at times, no wonder that they may have had a bike or two stolen from them seeing the amount of traffic they encourage, One neighbor is discusted and is selling his home , I see people come to look at his house and Drive away due to the activity present in this what used to be a quiet neighborhood. Another neighbor of mine has put up his home for sale because he needs to move closer to work , He is upset because this home has lowered the value of his asking price. There is a continuious stream of garbage coming from this house, candy wrappers, anything you can imagine, I actually saw kids bringing home garbage on the bulk pickup day in the area. Neighbors are being harrased by the kids yelling obsenities and calling names like @#$%, Petifile , Kids saying we Suck as we water our lawns and pick up their garbage. I'm sure the kids get their language skills from their mother who has a limited vocabulary herself. I'm discusted at the manner in which this house is kept and am appauled that the landlord lets it continue. We neighbors are contimplating a visit to the landlords home nearby.

I have a few things i would like to add property value is going to decrease if these actions continue. I also wanted to say one more things the behavior of the children is unacceptable and not to mention the parents let it continue these issues need to be resolved there are good pepole that live in this neighborhood and dont need to be exposed to this

It may need to be made clear there are several vehicles that need to be addressed an unsightly half taken apart black truck that's been an eyesore. It hasn't moved for a year since it was brought in on a flatbed. In addition there is a tan caravan with plates from maine, a third vehicle is a red chevy blazer parked across the street with washington plates, both have been in west haven just over a year, I believe they should have local plates since this is their current residence. Please address these violations.

Does West haven have and anti-blight ordinance or a group like LCI in New Haven?

This comment should go to those responsible for ticketing the vehicles that have been here for over a year with unpaid taxes that our city needs. Please be advised. The half taken apart black chevy eyesore is still right where its been for a year. Another vehicle a early 90's red chevy that has WASHINGTON PLATES and has been here OVER A YEAR has a license plate of; 853-SJT. There is a tan caravan also early 90's with MAINE PLATES that has also been here OVER A YEAR; that license plate is 569-0KB. Please forward these to the proper town officials. I'd also like to add there are many spindles missing from the railings in the back and front of the house and floors seem to be in disrepair there. I'd like to start by saying that I'm impressed with the results we have seen from this web site. I am very happy to see that someone has made this web site because we really don't want to bother the police with small issues. They have larger problems to deal with.
I did return home today from a knee therapy appointment to find the neighbor that currently resides in 217 East avenue yelling obsenities at me. Apparently they had to tow the broken down black car out of the driveway so they could park a caravan with marker plates from maine in the driveway.Apparentley I am the reason for that?? of course. it seems I do everything. Regardless, I called the Police and made a formal complaint. The officer was very nice and said that he would give her a ticket for $103.00 I'm sure that will evoke another response which I cringe about thinking of , but what will be , will be. I'm not getting run out of my home because of some disrespectful ( to be nice ) people.
Also this house still looks like a serious health code violation. I bet if planning and zoning were allowed in , they would have a field day. After visiting with the landlord with a few neighbors , I did actually see some work done. Although I have driven to four other homes in this area that the landlord owns and boy , this is the worst one. The others are landscaped and actually not an eyesore. I wish this one looked at least respectable. I'm sure there will be more issues , unfortunatley , but thanks to see click fix, some things have been improving , So props up. Please keep it up too.

I would like to say this website has been the only thing to successfully bring this neighborhood back to some semblance of normality. Its still not livable here as these renters at 217 East Ave have constantly harassed several of the neighbors here, including myself. Several neighbors have been called 'faggit', 'pedofile', 'child molester' etc...by both these renters. Our designated neighborhood watch lady also likes to hurl the slander around as her kids play with the unruly kids at 217 East Ave. She should be removed for such behavior. She and her husband have been part of several menacing screaming drunken mob scenes here on William st. Harassment, hate speech, destruction and damaged to private property, including my own, menacing and loitering have gone on for months. Now the new game is to get every kid who passes by our homes to scream as they go back and forth on their bikes. Some of the neighbors are both elderly and veterans of the armed services. Seems there is no limit to the depths some will sink. What happened to this place? Enough is ENOUGH! It may be time for the ACLU or child services to step in. The mother (at 217 East Ave) teaches her children who are under 10 to scream 'fagget' and 'pedofile' just like she does, as has been mentioned. Apparently she was recently arrested for the disgusting hate speech. This is a step in the right direction. Contact the West Haven police for details or just look it up when they update at;http://www.whpd.com/blotter.htm. Honestly I worry about how she will take revenge on all of us.

Thanks for the heads up Brett, I'll see if I can make any progress contacting them, to be honest I was extremely disappointed with the laughs, smirks and eye rolls I received from the 5 or so officers I've called to help me with this issue. In fact the trouble makers were emboldened by the officers. One cop even had a bunch of laughs at my expense with the renters for my complaints, of trespassing and other issues. Property rights and peace and quiet are the foundation of this country. Period. Honestly my confidence in the West Haven police is below zero, on this. In fact because of the police action it got worse here. Screams of 'fagget' 'pedofile' increased from neighborhood children, as did the trespassing. The kicker? My home was vandalized. So I don't know that anyone representing the West Haven police really made it clear to child or parent at 217 East ave that other citizens rights or property are a concern of theirs. The message from the police was clear; "Have a free for all, we don't care." As I said the activities of the West Haven police emboldened them. I hope the Quality of Life department will take me serious and actually improve things here. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe that will be the case.

I'd like to record the following information here. Recently a neighbor and I overheard the owner of the red blazer formerly with the washington plates; 853-SJT discussing with his landlord "revenge" upon myself and two other neighbors. This discussion included smashing our vehicle headlights in and putting sugar in our gas tanks. My home has already been vandalized once. I know recording this information here will be valuable evidence should I need to recoup financial losses. There have already been numerous fines and police visits regarding these troublesome neighbors, so it would be pretty obvious who was responsible, should something occur. Maybe they shouldn't talk so loud about future illegal plans. I hope this is just them blowing hot air, but they have certainly been cost several thousands of dollars. After what Ive been through i'll take no chances. I'm sure they are mad. We care about the neighborhood and we like it nice around here. They are the ones breaking laws and violating zoning conditions the city upholds and they only have themselves to blame for trying to cheat the system. I have read about connecticut police being laid off due to unpaid taxes, in bridgeport and new haven. I think we are doing the right thing by reporting these people. As 'doorbell' night is coming I can only brace for whats on its way for myself and other neighbors who have taken a stand. Update; All the initial problems persist. There are currently three large garbage piles in the yard, the ILLEGAL mechanic work and POISONOUS dumping continues. A white ford tempo (ill post the license plate later) is currently being worked on by the renters on 217 East Ave. The homeowner, has been by and has seen the illegal car work, the falling apart roof and porch that needs attention!!! Children live in that home. She sent a handyman here who merely looked at the dilapidated roof and through his hands up then went home. His ladder became part of the yard. Let's be clear this homeowner has 3 other properties in West Haven all of them imaculate. Why is 217 East ave such a disaster? Please look into the homeowner and real estate agency and strongly consider not doing business with someone with such low standards.

Here is my latest update; Well the problem children of William Street; the renters at this property continue to ruin a once nice and quiet neighborhood. As the months go by; the front porch stays full of garbage. Walking up the steps there are NO railings at all. This is accident waiting to happen, with little kids as young as 4 years old in the house. Why has no one seen this gets fixed? There used to be a nice railing and full spindles for someone to walk up and down the stairs. This was before the renters children kicked them all out. This is a code violation and NEEDS to be repaired. Period.

The mother who does not work never seems to leave the house ever except to swear at us homeowners; to call us Faggots and Pedofiles. ACLU where are you? It gets better readers I have a question for you; Why are there teenagers in a Green Nissan at 3am coming to visit? This is a common occurence, police drug units please be aware many of us suspect drugs are being sold there. We have much reason to suspect this. Pot can be smelled often when you walk by their home. There is a high amount of teenage foot traffic in and out for short visits specifically late at night and weekends and no teenagers happen to live there. These teenagers are of the long hair, grateful dead variety, take note police, we don't want this activity and what it brings to our neighborhood. The parents are in their 40's you do the math what multiple high school kids are doing in the house for 5 minute visits. About 4 came by last night according to two seperate witnesses.

Te neighborhood watch lady lives 3 or 4 houses down, I guess she doesn't HAPPEN to notice whats clearly drug activity because her children play with the renters kids. Potential drug dealers take note, this is a way to get around the system. Well enough is enough the Neighborhood Watch lady abuses her authority. She has hurled hate speech at me in front of dozens of witnesses. She called me a pedofile and a faggit, which is hate speech. I guess these are the kind of upstanding citizens the West Haven Police are deputizing to be Neighborhood Watch these days. Great job guys but Im sorry, that's not going to fly around here.

The violations continue unenforced by those in the town paid to do so. I've emailed town and state employees photos, yet still, NOTHING. The roof is still missing shingles in a section and you can see rotted wood exposed to the elements, zoning board please take note, this is not up to code and eventually it will become a hazard. Speaking of hazards I haven't mentioned the gutters yet, an 8 ft section is hanging of the corner of the house and LEANING AGAINST A LIVE POWERLINE. Hi there, I have an update a little earlier then I had thought. I would first off like to thank all the people who have helped us clean up the neighborhood. You know who you are and with our concentrated efforts things will be made nice here once again. The reason I write this update is that I have a repeat offender on the unregistered vehicle from Maine. Again it is a tan caravan early 90's with MAINE PLATES that has been here well OVER A YEAR; it's license plate is 569-0KB. This is a repeat offense, West Haven already ticketed him once. Myself and 3 other witnesses saw the tan van license plate 569-0KB being driven illegally this evening, the owner took it out for several hours. He's lived here for over a year, time for him to pay taxes where he lives like the rest of us.

On Wednesday of this week, I saw a teenager visiting the house at 217 East Avenue. He was tall, thin, wearing glasses driving a dark blue ford sedan visit the house for only 5 minutes. When he left I could see him shoving a rolled up plastic baggie into his pocket. One of my neighbors, who is a homeowner, was walking their dog and looked right at him. He quickly put his head down, ran to his car and sped off.

On a side note, the windows at 317 east ave are open quite a bit, it's winter time and its freezing out. That should tell you something. Its time someone tossed the house for drugs.

I agree , and have seen this traffic, not only that but these people drive cars that are registered in other states so they don't have to pay taxes. Usually the Police can do nothing unless they are driving the vehicle because they usually park it on the rental property , not the road. They have a truck as well that they use as a dumpster , illigal registration as well. They are not very good neighbors. It's sad that they are bringing down the appeal of the neighborhood. I hope to move somewhere more respectful in the future.

I just walked by last night, it stinks like Marijuana over there, the windows were open and you could actually see the smoke billowing out. I also noticed two teenagers visiting for 5 minutes, again. This is getting ridiculous and I'm just getting angry. It's time to write to the New Haven Register.

Cheryl, thanks for that suggestion, and your interest. Unfortunately, the police have been contacted over a dozen times regarding everything posted here. They have laughed in our faces and rolled there eyes, saying "theres nothing we can do." or words to that effect. That is why we have begun posting here, seeclickfix has been much more effective then WHPD in resolving these issues and shining light on just how wrong things are around here. The only change that has come about has been due to seeclickfix and we are thankful for this website.

Regarding 217 I have a new update. There is a WHITE / TAN TEMPO that has been on the corner of EAST AVE for over a month, that seems abandoned. It should be tagged with a sticker and towed away they have about 8 junk vehicles, and constantly shift around plates and stickers. The males in the home are mechanics and I suspect they are ILLEGALLY taking plates and shifting them around from their place of employment. ***To the town TAX assessor there is still this TAN CARAVAN, formerly with plates 569-0KB, they had NEW plates (ALSO FROM MAINE) 5650-KR. RONALD who owns this vehicle lived here for OVER a year and his permanent address is 217 EAST AVE as his son attends school in WEST HAVEN. TIME TO PAY HIS BILLS LIKE THE REST OF US. You may want to check into the plates of their white blazer too if you happen to come by. These guys have been busted before and the town needs money. To those in code enforcement. An 8 foot section of an aluminum gutter is dangling. It is a potential hazard should it fall on someone or touch the powerline. This needs to be fixed.

The roof is also in disrepair, many shingles are missing, maintenance hasn't been kept up as there is sign of rot and a 2 foot section of wood is exposed and warping. This is another violation.

There are two spindles missing on the front railing. This is a third code Violation. Litte children under ten years of age live there, they could fall through and get killed playing around this. This is just negligence on the part of the owner. This is typical of her 'contributions' to life around here.

This Carvan is driven EVERYDAY, he has no legal plates, thats why it is backed in the way it is. He seems to have finally gotten combo plates on that old junk filled pickup truck. The beige tempo is having work down on it, that is a customer's car. They do a lot of work on vehicles dumping; oil, brake fluid and other treats into the street. It's become a regular Texaco station around. Between the drug dealing and the chop shop activities around here I don't know what I like about these guys more. There are 4 or 5 new cars here a month, some stay, some go. Videos soon to come until the fun ceases.

Thats why it can be parked in the streets.
These vehicles which are registered in the city of West haven also contribute taxes to the town where as illegally registered cars only contribute to overcrowded streets and no place for parking.
You also can't have the same licence plates on two different vehicles.
Thats why you had to remove your car from the road.
As for minding your own business.... When you neighbor is having a work done to his house and parks a trailer in the street , in front of his house, Maybe you shouldn't contact the Police and complain that your at the time illegal tenants have no place to park.
Because as you can see , the trailer will stay there until I'm ready to move it. ( Because it's legal )
And your house gets turned in for zoning infringements,

I Don't know where to start . First this is a wonderful web site for what it does, The part I don't understand how unproven accusations and slander can be published about people. That can change ,or , if you let it destroy your life. I have just been made aware of my presence on this page by a caring neighbor who like many of them talk to, back and forth from my car (on the way to work store or pick up children) (in a legal ,like,all four of my vehicles ) He said that i was here and WELL. I was. I do think i should have been given a chance to reply to my evil misdoings back in aug. i would except sept. . OK
I'm one of the "unapproachable mechanics" I moved in april 18th 2008 bringing with me four vehicles. That is why i rented a house with four car driveway one vehicle being the "questionable black blazer " so that is 1 issue exaggerated i haven't even lived here a year yet how could it have moved in before me.
3 weeks later dcf worker shows up at door unannounced with most of these same issues ( the refrigerator was a camper model 30" tall portable)kids couldn't play in it ! she walked in yard found no animal waste kids fed house clean one month of checks cleared. next constant visits by the WHPD for everything from kids playing on sidewalk to kids playing in street then the woods at the end of the road by FRED if they went there he would watse WHPD time and tax money with calling in false reports that the kids where in the pumping station not verified when police arrived so i can see how he is concerned that there wont' be tax dollars there to waste. you can check with WHPD they where many many times. for many made up or non issues. this one end of the road always sees the problems ,they want. Never noticed the bike thieves roaming the block . It must be my 12 and 10 yr .old boys.. I have a hobby and connect with my boys when work on bikes. this is not allowed in this area. Isn't that a quality of life issue. Not complaining just trying to not annoy the condo committee down the street . I thought once the kids stopped playing in the street .I thought we where good, but ,the hate continues.

Cleanup the violations. I stand by everything I've posted here, I have evidence and multiple witnesses to back me up. Wake up. There are 19 people who want this fixed, I'm not your problem, your own behavior is.

I'd like to thank seeclickfix for this forum once again. I'd like to make it clear I’ve been taking care of this property for twenty years and have been living here for nearly ten years. The home is part of my family legacy and has been in the family for almost a century. I'm not used to mobs of people screaming “pedofile” and “@#$%” at me here or anywhere. Last summer, a mother of one of the kids in the neighborhood was arrested for calling another neighbor a “@#$%”.

This behavior, people yelling 'faggit' and 'pedofile' amounts to intimidation, Which is a crime. Yelling faggit makes it a hatecrime. It would happen whenever I walked out the door. Plenty of other intimidation has gone on over the past few months, both verbal and others cruising around on a homemade Moped yelling that Rednecks are taking over.

One neighbor was down the street by six adults for calling the Police, another has decided to sell his house it's become so bad around here.

There are a a lot of fans of this mechanic's work posting on here. That's why he's so popular. The folks getting the cheap work, don't mind the oil and brake fluid that washes down here where I live. Nor do I appreciate the uninsured welding to make these bikes and other vehicles that bring all the traffic and crime you're worried about.

Additionally my property was vandalized in September. That never happened before they moved in here. The 12 year old has verbally harassed women in the neighborhood. He often swerved into oncoming traffic just to be a nuisance. Grinning while he did. He screamed 'faggit' and 'pedofile' at me and a neighbor for months non stop. Whenever I'd walk out my door, he'd shoot his mouth off. The child had ponographic playing cards he threw all over the next door neighbors yard. Should I keep going? With parents who won't stop their children who are out of control one is at a loss. This is all out of asking them to not trespass on my lawn, I asked them nicely a handful of times, I was either insulted or ignored. I tried to just speak to them, several times. There is no communicating with them, I and others have tried. "They are just kids" everyone shouts. I guess that explains everything.

The Dog left a present in my yard a bunch of times. A few weeks back I had to call k-9 police unit. As their entire family has been unapproachable, menacing and just non communicative to me at least, I had to involve city services. While this happened the 12 year old yells "i hate you" over and over, jumping up and down. The mother only picked up her dog leavings when prompted by k-9 officers, this happened more then one time. There should be two records of incidents. It has since ceased. Thanks for that.

His bikes and connecting with kids? Welding uninsured in public with no eye protection for onlookers on bicycles or cars that your fixing for cash is a violation in a residential area. Am I out of line?

I haven't felt safe in this area and having been here for so long, It's disappointing I've had to invest in security cameras to watch my property.

Your questionable black blazer was towed to make room for a vehicle registered in a different state. You can't park it on these city streets if you have been here for six months without paying taxes for it. Not when there's such a parking issue. And then there's being caught operating it. which is manditory inspection or proper reg. Ur the mechanic. I don't even want that.

Tenants at 217 East Avenue state that Porch Spindles are brittle and break easy , some are missing. There are neighbors that have complained about this as well , there are pics posted. There are also small children in the house so let's have the landlord fix the discrepancies before people get hurt. Tenants also removed a 10 ft. section of dangling gutter as to avoid the potential for somebody to get hurt. The Landlord should take care of this house better or not be allowed to rent unsafe houses.

That's funny because,
I read in a Landscape journal that circle track racing in gas powered recreational vehicles into the nightime hours with flashlights lighting the racetrack ( your back yard )was most benificial in influencing strong root growth for many grasses native to the northeast.
That could be a contributing factor.

I have been called names at the beach by him and in front of my own house. This adolescent seems to be on a path of destruction and disrespect. He has weakened the stucturual support to a neighbors fence and gained access to their yard through it.
The fence is still weak and has not been repaired. I just spoke with the neighbor 10 minutes ago. He spoke to the renters at 217 East Ave about it.
Still nothing has been done to repair it. Another neighbor that has got nowhere and has had to endure trespass and aweful language from the renters.

Hi there, I just want to thank the FANTASTIC people over at the West Haven PD and Animal Control!!!!! We did have an issue with a four legged guy, (not the first time with him) but I called Animal Control and they were here in a snap to teach Dusty's owners propper doggy care. Some people need a little extra reminder to do what is pretty much common sense; don't let an aggressive animal roam free, drop waste on you neighbors property and most of all CLEAN UP AFTER HIM. To the West Haven Police, Animal Control Office and all other parties who have brought these folks to "heel" MERRY CHRISTMAS and MANY MANY MORE!!!!!!!!!!

This title is misleading. The word rage implies violence and violence couldn’t be further from the truth. The intent of the neighbors and those that post at the website is to have their issue resolved. Unfortunately Abbe Smith, part of the register staff seems to have missed that in her civic courses. In a time when violence has escalated to a point of war, neighbors placing distressing calls to their police stations and making comments on websites where their issues can be resolved was misattributed and mislabeled as “computer rage”.

In civilized societies we say things before we act. We try to resolve things in a way that all parties feel that their issues have been taken into account. Instead of considering why a group of neighbors would ban together against another neighbor, Abbe Smith completely sides with Fitzmaurice, by portraying him as the victim. For example; Abbe Smith quotes Fitzmaurice “They blind-sided me big time,” .

To completely understand the nature of the dispute, may not be possible with the lack of evidence and biased points of view that Fitzmaurices or the disgruntled neighbors have. In fact the only way that it can be resolved is by physical evidence. By physical evidence I mean are there any merits to the complaints that were alleged against Fitzmaurice? So the first question that we must ask is whether or not there is any physical evidence made by these anonymous ‘cyber neighbor’ posters. Miss Abbe Smith stated and I quote ‘outburst from the woman occurred on the same day that one of Fitzmaurice’s vehicles on the property, a black Chevy Blazer, was towed away because it was not properly registered. Several neighbors’ complaints posted on seeclickfix.com about unregistered vehicles resulted in the city taking action in the matter. As it turns out, residents in West Haven are allowed to have one unregistered vehicle on their property..” According to the New Haven Register; “The Fitzmaurices had two and so decided to “scrap” one so they could be in compliance.” Clearly the neighbors had cause for complaint, otherwise Fitzmaurice would not have had to scrap one of his vehicles.

How many cars does Fitzmaurice have in his possession? There were at least two unregistered vehicles. The victim Fitzmaurice had to scrap one of them so they could be in compliance with West Haven law. We the community feel that this is unjust, why? Why should West Haevn limit the amount of unregistered cars that should be on any bodies property? The civil law of West Haven is victimizing Fitzmaurice for having too many unregistered cars. Those ‘angry’ cyber neighbors are victimizing Fitzmaurice by asking him to be in compliance with West Haven law. What we need, is to petition lawmakers to make an exception so that Fitzmaurice can have more then one unregistered vehicle on his property in addition to his registered vehicles. Never mind the parking inconveniences that are created by Fitzmaurices multiple cars, the important thing is that he not be a victim. The fact, that Fitzmaurice had to ‘scrap’ one of his vehicles, is Orwellian. How dare we ask our neighbors to comply with the law. Again, we need to petition city hall to make the Fitzmaurice Unregistered vehicle act, allowing some people to have an unlimited amount of cars on the street. Only then can justice be served. I say, that instead of scrapping his black chevy blazer it is the law that should be scrapped.

Fitzmaurice has endured a lot since moving in to the house last April. The neighbors repeated calls to the police are no indicator of their frustration or their civic duty to help enforce the law. The repeated calls of the neighbors is clearly a demonstration of ; ‘cyber rage’.

According to Abbe Smith a brilliant reporter, she inadvertently forgot to mention that there were police reports associated with the Fiztmaurice household. Which would support the claims of the ‘angry cyber neighbors’. Here are the police report numbers so that any interested party can verify the validity of our claims. For the sake of fair and honest reporting I hope that the New Haven Register will allow the "cyber neighbors" to voice their opinion on the front page of their paper without being blindsided.
