To Whom it may concern,
We live on Westminster Street in New Haven Ct. It is off Middletown Ave where cars go 50-60 miles an hour with no SURVEILLANCE at all. We walk daily up and down our street, Westminster Street for exercise where cars drive onto from Middletown Ave at the same speed.
Twice in the last 2 weeks we have come within inches of being hit by speeding cars.
We need to have 2 things happen ASAP:
1.We need to have some kind of DETERRENT or SURVEILLANCE of speed on Middletown Ave where we currently have a daily speedway going on with NO DETERRENT!!
2.We need SPEED BUMPS to be installed on Westminster Street to try to DETER the SPEED from cars hitting Pedestrians.
3. I would like a response from the city immediately, twice in 2 weeks we have come within inches of being mowed down by speeding cars coming off of Middletown Ave or Quinnipiac Ave,New Haven and our street Westminster Street New Haven Ct.
Thank you for sharing your concerns. A great way to investigate potential improvements to Westminster such as traffic calming solutions would be to engage with your community management team (CMT), the Quinnipiac East CMT. I am looking into whether your CMT is meeting virtually during the public health crisis and will update you when I have more information. Reaching out to your alder either through the CMT meetings or separately is also a good place to start.
Please feel free to report any enforcement requests to the NHPD non-emergency line at (203)946-6316 as the police do not currently monitor this website.
Middletown Avenue (route 17) is a state road and managed by the Connecticut Department of Transportation who also do not monitor this site. We encourage you to contact the CTDOT using the form linked here and share your concerns;
