When cars are parked on the west side of 50th near this intersection there is almost no visibility for cars driving South on 50th Ave S. Pedestrians are invisible until the cars are actually turning onto Wilson. The city refuses to put a sign prohibiting parking within 30 feet of the intersection, an easy solution; nor will they build a smaller intersection at 50th and Wilson or paint a crosswalk! This all within 1 block of a shopping destination. Street parking is the main concern here as it blocks visibility.

50th Ave S is wide at this point, making for a more daunting pedestrian crossing. To the north, 50th also seems wider than it really needs to be, and there are usually very few cars parked on the street. On-street parking can sometimes create a sense of a narrower roadway, so I'm not clear that a wider, emptier expanse of asphalt will improve safety.

I'm not suggesting a wider street. Cars heading south on 50th do not have pedestrian visibility in the intersection if there is a (usually large SUV)car parked close to the intersection. The problem is that the uphill angle hides pedestrians behind cars until they are in the intersection, and many cars cut the corner too close. 50th Ave. S. has been identified as a high-speed traffic corridor as well. Bike sharrows may help, but a better remedy would be either narrowing the intersection with a barrier, not allowing street parking within an appropriate distance or blocking off this road (Wilson)to Southbound traffic entirely. This is an area where there is a lot of foot traffic due to restaurants, grocery store, cafe etc.
