Please reopen; this posting is for the City of New Haven, not New Britain. City employees and elected officials use this site (which is a great service) all of the time to interface with constituents and address problems.
A temporary curb extension would work well here (it costs very little), until the next time that the curbs can be rebuilt. The bus stop is used by many senior citizens so this is important.
As of 2013 City departments have begun to review, acknowledge and respond to SeeClickFix issues. Since your issue is in the category titled "No Service Request" and was submitted prior to 2013, we are going to close and archive it. If this issue still requires City attention, please report as a new SeeClickFix issue. Thank you.
I would like to see this intersection become more walkable, by raising it and adding curb extensions. It's a very long distance to cross and is currently dangerous.
This is right next to a bus stop. Stand out there and watch elderly people and families with strollers try to cross it every day. It's not that it's impossible to cross for an able bodied person, and it's far from the worst intersection in town. But if New Haven wants to succeed economically, it needs to accommodate people and make them as comfortable as possible. Even if they are disabled.
If you don't agree that this is a problem,
1) Try walking across here on crutches every day, pretending you have a badly broken limb.
2) Pack up your crutches, visit a place where crosswalks are designed to put the needs of pedestrians first, and see how much easier it is for you.
We are trying to delineate issues that are current and need the city's attention to resolve and as a result a number of historical issues are being closed. If your issue remains and needs to be addressed by the city, please open as a new See Click Fix issue with updated information and details. Thank you.
