I copied this and faxed it to the Hill South substation--since no one answers the phone at the Narcotics # on the police dept.'s page at CityofNewHaven.com --& asked them to forward the info to Lt. Jeff Hoffmann who heads the new Street Interdiction Unit.

After several minutes of much audible shuffling of papers, the dispatcher at the non-emergency police # gave me Lt. Hoffmann's phone number but--surprise!--no one answers that number either. "Community Policing"--minus the "Community".

This site no longer allows specific details (e.g. address, marker plate numbers, names) to be posted re. drug dealing, due to the potential for false accusations (& resultant lawsuits against this site's owners). Go directly to the police. You always can report to the police anonymously (and you can given THEM very specific details). I'm told by Lt. Hoffman that it typically takes about 6 months to build a case. It has been 2 yrs and our street has gotten worse!! We need patrol cars on this street like before. Today it is bad!! I pray that things turn around soon.

What we REALLY need are cops who LIVE here and therefore are invested in the community. Right now we essentially have a foreign occupying army who's only community investment is a weekly paycheck.

Note that there were few incidents on the June Police Log for Hallock Ave. (Click link below.) If residents don't call the police every time there's a problem, there's no record of it, so Hallock Ave. becomes a low priority. Calls to police always can be anonymous.

SECTION 8 VOUCHER REVOKED!!
For the first time ever, New Haven Housing Authority finally has decided to follow HUD guidelines and revoke the Section 8 voucher of tenant at 299 Greenwich Ave due to persistent gun & drug arrests at this address. (Unfortunately, this is NOT a guarantee that they’ll be moving: if they continue to pay rent with their OWN money the landlord can continue to keep them there—in which case, our next step is to go after the landlord.)
SO HOW WAS THIS ACCOMPLISHED? Because NEIGHBORS were willing to keep the police updated about the illegal activity taking place at 299 Greenwich so that a HISTORY of police reports and arrests could be accumulated. IF THERE’S NO OFFICIAL RECORD OF COMPLAINTS, ETC. THEN POLICE & HOUSING CAN DO NOTHING.
If this can work on Greenwich Ave., it can work on Hallock Ave.
