说明
Homeless encampment behind 8 orchids building and next to Salvation Army. It is also right where the freeway exit is for Broadway. They have been here for a year and their belonging and camp is getting bigger and bigger taking more and more street and parking spaces. It makes it unsafe for residents living here as well as drivers exiting this freeway. Please remove camp and belongings as soon as possible. It has already been too long.

The encampment is at the intersection of 6th & Franklin (BEHIND 8 Orchids). The City's cleanup team was on-site Tuesday, April 17, but the debris has merely been moved from one corner to another at that intersection. The occupants' belongings should be taken into storage (after 72 hours' notice, as per official Abatement procedures), and the City should designate off-street sites where they can camp.
The situation now is no better than it was before this travesty of a "cleanup"; the only difference is that now the debris has been moved around, and the campers have been harassed. As things stand, the City's actions have only made things worse.

The situation has also become dangerous for the old woman whose stuff is now piled up on Franklin Street. Her tent is now out in the gutter, in a traffic lane -- where she might get killed by a car turning the corner at night.
As I wrote above, The occupants' belongings should be taken into storage (after 72 hours' notice, as per official Abatement procedures), and the City should designate off-street sites where they can camp.
Instead, this botched "cleanup" has made matters far worse -- for all concerned. Please escalate this to someone competent who can take ownership of the situation and get it right!

What's gotten bigger is not the actual encampment.
A homeless, frail old woman is camped there in her tent, and a couple or so thugs (with neck tattoos) are using the block to warehouse stolen bicycle parts and other goods -- preying on that old woman, holding her accountable to watch over the stuff they deposit there. She's scared to death!
I've been assured that the City will return to do a complete cleanup. The woman should be offered a designated, safe place where she can pitch her tent. Her personal belongings should be taken into storage, and the stuff those thugs have been piling up should be hauled away as trash.
It's important for the City to get this right -- to be humane, without perpetuating the problem!
