ANOTHER FATAL accident at this intersection just a few weeks ago! The new traffic light is more confusing than the old one. Also, too much traffic & congestion in front of Randazzo's Market & the businesses across the street. Time to widen Hayes btwn 22 & 23 Mile Rds.

These new signals have now been approved as standard guidelines and installed throughout the entire country, so drivers should become familiar with their operation.
Cut and paste these links to your browser for great info on how these new signals work:

Personally, I think these lights are much better than the old ones. The problem with Hayes/22 Mile is that there is just too much traffic for two lane roads. Hayes should have been widened long ago to 23 Mile Road along with Romeo Plank to 23 Mile Road.
Maybe once they get the new lights working at Hayes/23 Mile Road things will get better at Hayes/22. Also, the public has to educate themselves on these lights. The Macomb County Road Commission has the lick to do just that on their website.

I agree. One should not have to go to a website to understand a traffic light! Red, yellow, green solid lights and flashing red we understand. I see no purpose in adding red, yellow, green steady arrows and flashing yellows. There is no need for arrows.. I know if I am in a left or right only turning lane, you don't have to tell me.
A solid red right arrow????? What does this mean? Can I still turn right if the traffic is clear? I think yes but my brain says no when looking at a red steady arrow. Seems to me it should be flashing red if a turn is allowed after a full stop and when the traffic clears.
Just a waste of taxpayers money. Especially when no one will pick up a phone when I call to ask a question. Do they ever pick up a ringing phone? I don't think so, they are screening their calls.

I totally agree with motorcycle rider's comments. People are anticipating the light to do one thing & it does another. How many times have we seen people in the left turn lane end up stuck in the middle of the intersection? Anyone that goes through here can see the backups.
For the most part I do think these lights are helpful. The one at 25 mile & schoenherr works very well at adjusting the signals to traffic flow. So do many of the new lights at other intersections. But there is something just not right with the ones at 22 & Hayes...the timing is off or something. Ever since these lights were put in traffic has gotten worse here. There are massive backups in every direction. Would be interesting to find out if accidents have increased at this intersection since they've been installed.
You only need to sit at this intersection around 4-6pm to see that whatever has been done is NOT WORKING. You're always going to find someone to complain about something, but look at how many people are posting about this...we can't all be just a bunch of whiners lol. The lights at this particular intersection really need to be looked at again because something is not right here.

Shelby News on Cable has a police officer and a spokes person letting us all know that the reason we are confused and things are going badly at these intersections is our fault "we are trying to anticipate what the other lights are doing". Sorry guys.. you are sooo wrong. I could care less what the other lights are doing, I am just trying to figure out what is going on in the direction I am going.
They also say that these lights move the traffic load better and the roads do not need to be widened now!!!!!!
Our gas tax is suppose to go to roads, that is why we are taxed. Put the technology in better road construction not in these idiotic lights.
