Chapanoke Rd is a main road that leads into Renaissance Park Neighborhood where there are many people that walk up and down the road. This road has no break in it and people tend to travel at very high speeds during busy times of 7:30am to 9am - 4:45pm-7PM MTWTF and then it is a little less regimented on the weekends. However, someone is going to get hurt. There are small children that play in that neighborhood and active residence that are put at risk. This Road needs a stop sign or something to break the flow of traffic and slow people down. Speed tables would be great too. Something needs to happen before someone gets hurt. Also the STOP sign on Ileagnes has come down on one side. PLEASE HELP

I favor both more stop signs and speed bumps, the sooner the better. Speed bumps will not harm your car at 25 mph.
I am in my 5th year in the neighborhood, and I know from experience that verbal pleas on our internet site are unfortunately of no help. I have witnessed some near tragedies, and I know that several accidents have already happened. Many times, I have been cut off by cars swerving into Chapanoke from side streets without even looking or slowing down for stop signs. It is also true, as Kristen pointed out, that most of the speeding is being done by our own neighbors.

If people want speed bumps they can move back to New York. Our cars and the environment shouldn't have to sustain extra wear and year because you want our neighborhood to be "like home"
If speed bumps are put in, I suggest that everyone honks every time they go over one in protest.

My only question at this point is if the streets are determined to be the responsibility of the developer can they create a four-way stop and/or other traffic calming measures without city approval? And if such approval is needed how would they go about getting it. If we have to go back to them we want to have all the information so we can move this forward.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this and help us sort through the details. We want to make sure this issue is resolved and our streets are safe for everyone.

I would prefer a few of the mild washboard-type speed calmers around the neighborhood rather than speed bumps or more stop signs. I admit it is easy to inadvertently go too fast sometimes and the washboards definitely get your attention without damaging your vehicle. The washboards could end about a foot from the curb so that bikers can have smooth passage.
And by the way since we're concerned about traffic safety, how come I sometimes encounter people pushing their stroller kids side-by-side in the street rather than using our great sidewalks??

No disrespect to anyone, but I've lived near that corner for 4 years and in my opinion, I'm not convinced stop signs or speed bumps are needed. Perhaps the roads on Ileagnes could be painted with white lines and the word "STOP" and maybe "2 Way Stop" signs and the words "SLOW" painted on Ileagnes would clarify right of way.
However, if the evidence and data indicates something must be done, please no 4 way stop sign - a speed bump would be much preferred for a couple reasons, not the least of which to me personally is that I already have to put up with vehicles (especially loud ones) accelerating away from the stop sign on Ileagnes at all hours, and I don't relish the thought of another stop sign on the main road (Ileagnes) causing more of this.
Also, I'm not so sure that the majority of people speeding through the neighborhood actually live here. I think a lot of the traffic is cut through traffic between Tryon and the strip malls. Another idea (that has been shot down several times) would be to make it a gated community - cutting down on cut through traffic, increase security, AND slow down traffic at the entrances of the neighborhoods - preferably not right out in front of someone's house.
