Since reporting this three years ago, I've contacted the office of Pennsylvania Representative Hon. Tim Briggs, asking for assistance twice, but no action has been forthcoming. Haverford Road is a state road, so the township of Lower Merion evidently has no power to rectify the situation. If anybody knows how to get the traffic lights re-set to establish left-turn arrows in all four directions of the City Avenue & Haverford Road/Avenue intersection, that would be a big step toward making it safer. I, personally, take alternate routes to avoid having to make a left turn at that intersection.

January 07, 2014 Just sent another email to Rep Tim Briggs, asking what he's done to help make this happen. All the intersection needs is a left-turn arrow signal in all four directions, and that would significantly increase the safety of the location.

I'd really like to see this fixed. Not just for you but for the thousands of motorists and pedestrians put at risk every day and night by the utter neglect by Penndot and the representatives of the surrounding communities in the City of Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township. This, as I wrote in my comment of 2010, has been an issue since the 70's...the 1970's!! As a suggestion, I think you need to bypass the Hon. Tom Briggs who can't or won't help and create a coalition of LOCAL Philadelphia and Lower Merion residents and lawmakers who will help. This is really a SIMPLE FIX. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Good luck to you and all those concerned.

Just heard from Briggs' office that PennDOT will be contacted, so I'm hoping things will move forward. Thank you for your support.

If Brigg's office ever contacted PennDOT about fixing the intersection, I've had no communication from them, nor has anything at Haverford Road & City Avenue been altered.

Election day is near. Vote for Brigg's opposition. If they won't communicate with you, one of their primary jobs,vote them out. In the meantime I'd place a call to the local PENDOT office, 7000 Geerdes Boulevard

Briggs' staff has repeatedly, over past few years, told me they'd get to PENNDOT, but I have no information that they've acted, nor have the intersection's traffic lights been customized to regulate safe turning and pedestrian crossing.

Incident and accident statistics for the City Ave & Haverford Rd intersection would be essential to take the issue to the press ------ Anybody have them?

Have you tried your local Lower Merion traffic safety unit of the LM Police Dept.? I'd think they could steer you in the right direction. As far as incident/accident reports.. local (LM and Philly) depending on which side of City Ave but then all go to the State, PENDOT for stat gathering. The local press would have better and faster access to these stats if you could interest them in the issue. Let them sit in the 7-11 parking lot at rush hour for a first hand look at the traffic mayhem and lack of any pedestrian safety.
Also noticed one of Briggs' Committee assignments is Transportation, Subcommittee on Transportation Safety - Democratic Chair. He is absolutely shirking his duties to you. Try your State Senator Leach.

I avoid using it from the City Ave northbound lane whenever possible. Yes, he is shirking his duties to all who walk or drive through that City Ave and Haverford Road/Ave intersection.

Try your State Senator. Briggs is obviously in over his head. Try the Secretary of Transportation. New Gov. may equal new plans.

As this is an intersection of 2 State roads he should help. Did you try the PENNDOT contact I gave you back in 2014? You have to be unrelenting in your pursuit of getting this fixed or they all will go to the next issue.

Unfortunately, it will probably take a serious incident or loss of life for any one with the authority to place traffic signals at this dangerous intersection to do so.\.

There have been serious accidents there, too many to list and loss of life. DO something if you want change. Organize, rally, block the intersection....all the things you see others doing to get the attention of the press and lawmakers when they want something changed for the better. There must be hundreds of people within a mile radius who would get involved. Be a leader!!
