Please contact the Road Commission directly to report potholes. We are not able to monitor this Web site on a regular basis.
These are public roads, not private streets. The Road Commission has no jurisdiction over the school district.
You can reach the Road Commission via phone toll free at 877-858-4804, via e-mail at dcsmail@rcoc.org or through our Web site, www.rcocweb.org (click on "Contact us").
Thank you,

Well...OK there, then.... No thanks.
I prefer and choose this forum to keep everything open to the public as to what is happening here versus private, fruitless, covered up communications. This is far more than a "pothole" situation. RCOC really should find the time and resources to "monitor" the real world..versus hiding behind antiquated bureaucracy.
Rebuild Shoreline. Rebuild Halkirk to standards that will accommodate the bus load that our streets were never initially designed for nor expected to handle. Widen the road. Make it safe. Put in sidewalks so our children can safely ride their bikes in THEIR neighborhood without fear of getting creamed by a bus because of an unsafe situation created by various County entites. Put in stop signs at Shoreline and Halkirk... Charge the cost to Oakland Schools as it is their busses and operations that are destroying our subdivision streets and creating an unacceptable, unsafe environment.
During my school days we had to walk from the back of this sub up to Dixie as busses did not enter this sub as there was no direct way through.
Really? Are you serious? Actually, search your archives, these WERE initially semi-private streets never maintained by the county, but by the twp., until it was somehow decided to allow the joining of Shoreline Drive with Island Park Drive with, I am sure, RCOC approval or input. This decision created the current nightmare in our once quiet, and beautiful neighborhood by making Shoreline/Island Park Drives the only route to and from Montgomery School.
Access to that school should have initially been via Rural off Dixie versus facilitating the destruction of our once private streets along with also creating the secondary problem - a dangerous high volume speedway/shortcut from Sashabaw to Dixie through a residential neighborhood. A disproportionate volume of traffic now flows through what was once a quiet neighborhood resulting in non-residents tailgating us,harassing us for driving slow, excessive speed and dangerous passing on narrow subdivision streets... These are narrow neighborhood streets designed for residential traffic NOT standard two lane county roads...sheesh!
When Kettering HS was redone it included a new dedicated entrance that finally spared Bender residents from the bus destruction and traffic. When Montgomery was redone last year it should have included a dedicated access from Rural - that would have been logical versus continuing to run busses and unwanted, unsafe traffic through our sub... simply insane "planning"..
The rest of the streets in our sub that the busses stay off of are still in fine shape after nearly 40 years.....
I still call BS and abuse because the patch jobs RCOC does in here are a joke and do little to correct the problem... Why are the large dips and sinking areas ignored?
Shoreline and Dixie is always torn up from the bus traffic as is the Sashabaw and Island Park intersection.. The drainage system along Shoreline has been totally destroyed resulting in severe ponding every-time it rains.
RCOC and Oakland Schools are both County entities who together created and perpetuate these unbearable and unsafe road conditions here.
Years ago you worked with other subdivision citizens in eliminating the Cass Lake to Watkins Lake road via N Cass Lake Rd sub cut through. Now it is our turn.
Fix these problems PLEASE! We need relief from this County created abuse of our basic right to peaceful living. We chose a peaceful life by living here in a quiet neighborhood. NOT unacceptable life on a sub street converted into a substandard, unsafe pseudo "county road" There are not even lane marking lines as are expected on a "county road"... Simply put - want to call Shoreline a county road? Then rebuild it as one!

Solution?
1. Create a dedicated access to Montgomery School via Rural Street from Dixie and block existing ingress and egress from Lakeland Estates. Yes, that might involve a property purchase - BUT that is how it should have been done from the start!
2. Eliminate the Shoreline/Island Park cut through by installing Cul De Sacs at both points where Eagle Lake and Woodhull Lakes join and mark both roads as "No Thru Traffic"
3. As initially stated... Restore Shoreline and Halkirk Drives to their pre Montgomory condition and have Oakland Schools foot the bill for the damage caused by placing and operating Montomery in our sub.
Thank you and I intend to keep this in the public eye until the unacceptable situation is corrected versus your post to take it private....
