this intersection is impossible to traverse. It is impossible to turn onto or out of Gilbert Road. This intersection needs its own traffic light, coordinated with the light at Weibel. I travel this intersection several time a day and have witnessed near-miss accidents numerous time (and have been involved in a few near misses as well); not to mention the aggressive driving which I believe is in great partdue to the inability to get into or out of Gilbert Road and the unwillingness of Lake Avenue drivers to let anyone turn into or out of Gilbert. Wake up. Install a light here
I sigh with rrelief every time I successfully turn left from Gilbert Road onto Lake Ave., Rt. 29. I fear that I will not make this turn without being hit by a speeding car going towards Schuylerville, or one turning from Weibel. Speed limit going East on Lake is too fast. Even if this is changed, drivers are used to the previous speed limit and probably would ignore the new limit. We need too ask the state to put a traffic light there. I'd even settle for a round about.
No only is this intersection dangerous people use Gilbert road as a short cut speedway. Maybe some more signs stating limit is 30 miles per hour should be up or just have the police give out more tickets. Just waiting to get see someone get hit coming out onto Gilbert.
There is no easy solution to this problem. Adding a traffic light will cause more problems than it will solve. The speed limit is not 30 in that area btw, it's 45.
To add to this confusion, some people don't realize that the light is green on Lake going towards Schuylerville, while, from Gilbert Rd., it looks like there's a red light- if you are headed into town. Many would assume that it's red in both directions and pull out, perhaps getting hit from speeding cars going away from town.

Another thought is a "round about" that takes care of all of that area, including those coming and going from Stewarts. I don't like them, myself, but it is safer than what exists now, and it does slow down the speed of traffic. Folks that use them everyday, such as the ones at Exit 12, really like them, and t some of them work for State Farm's Auto Claim business.
I have been concerned about exiting the Northway, southbound at exit 14. It seems fairly safe to head west off this exit, but going east can be very dangerous. There isn't enough space in the center for the cars heading south on 87 and those exiting to head east. Also, now that the construction is taking place, seeing the oncoming traffic from the east heading into Saratoga, is almost impossible. Thank you for this site.
