I've referred this to our Public Works Department. I will update this issue when I have heard back from them. However, please be advised this intersection is an NCDOT street. Thanks for reporting.

I have several meetings at the McKimmon Center yearly. It as a nightmare when you leave that place. You would think they would have traffic control after large events with thousands of people. They have them when you pull in in the morning, why not there to give help leaving. This would also keep people from exiting out onto Gorman Street from the one-way entrance to the McKimmon Center, which also makes cars trying to pull in to McKimmon not able to because exiting cars have filled up the one-way entrance. Poor planning and management all around.

The McKimmon Center is, of course, managed by NC State University. NCSU does not monitor or participate in the City of Raleigh SeeClickFix.

I think the gist of this concern is about the ridiculous back-ups in the center lane and the light cycle.

McKimmon Center actually has a convenient exit route that goes out the other side past the NCSU Visitor Center onto Varisty Dr. giving access to either Western Blvd or Avent Ferry. Right now they are preparing signage to help visitors to better understand how to exit the parking lot on crowded days.

This intersection is over capacity. Events at McKimmon exacerbate the situation. To install a device like a median would further hinder queuing and make the Gorman/Western intersection worse. At the moment, there is storage for the high amounts of left-turns that take place out there by utilizing the two-way left turn lane. Without this option, through traffic would be blocked and the intersection wouldn’t function properly at all. We are working with NCSU to try and route more vehicles towards Varsity Drive to minimize the traffic at Gorman from events. This would be something that they will handle on their own and the city can’t enforce, but we hope this helps some in regards to McKimmon traffic. Thank you for the reply. That makes a lot sense. Varsity Drive was recently upgraded and widened to 4 lanes. It would make sense to flow the traffic out to Varsity Drive. In the meantime, we will suffer in the apartments down Sherman, but I am glad to see the problem is on the radar.
