Look, if texting is not OK while driving, neither is the distraction that comes with looking at the panhandler, reading the sign, avoiding hitting that person, possibly talking to the person and/or making a donation. Panhandling can definitely cause accidents. Panhandling of cars in traffic should not be allowed, particularly not busy intersections and highway on/off ramps.
marguerite have a heart or at least go big: let's ban sidewalks! because people are so distracting. i'd like to ban attractive people also because they're *so* distracting. and really exceptionally ugly people. too distracting! would love it if new haven could be a little more boring so i could drive better.
A lot of ways, a car turned right and stopped abruptly to give them a bag of dog food and got rear-ended, in front of me, I almost hit them. It is a super busy intersection, especially at rush hour and they're on the corner practically every day, actively pleading, walking up to cars, and creating hazards, for themselves and others...
Let me get this straight, you almost hit someone who was giving something to a panhandler - so you want to ban panhandlers? (I imagine you would also suggest that the panhandlers -- who rely upon intersections with *traffic* --- relocate to an intersection that is less busy - is that right? Lol.) Omg it's like Zero Empathy Anonymous over here.
