Description
Facebook has disabled the official City of New Haven page (facebook.com/cityofnewhaven) because it cannot distinguish between the geographic entity (New Haven, Connecticut) and the government entity (City of New Haven). While other city governments across the country have been allowed to maintain official City pages, the City of New Haven has been blocked. Admittedly late to the social media game, the City's official Facebook page had been steadily growing its audience and had attracted nearly 1,000 followers. Just yesterday, with the help of Alderman Doug Hausladen, a good conversation had started about the merits of the new parking meters. The City recognizes that not everyone has time to attend public hearings, Mayor's Night Out or Mayor's Night In. It is important to employ as many methods as possible to allow residents to communicate with their government. That includes traditional methods like knocking on doors and posting flyers, but that increasingly also includes tools like SeeClickFix, Facebook, Constant Contact and Twitter. By disabling the City of New Haven's Facebook page, Facebook is doing the residents of New Haven a disservice. Please ask Facebook to reinstate the City of New Haven Facebook page.

"All electors of this state dwelling within the limits hereinafter specified shall be a body politic
and corporate by the name the "City of New Haven,"
The CIty of New Haven deserves its own Facebook Page!

I received another form email from Facebook this evening that repeats their policy without acknowledging any of the content of our appeal. Here is their email:
We recently sent you a message requesting that you change the name of your Page because it does not meet the requirements for our geographic location policy. We are writing to inform you that this is your final warning and if no action is taken we will remove your administrative rights permanently.
We encourage you to visit this section of our Help Center for more examples and explanations of acceptable Page names:

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Thanks,

"If you are part of a government or organization that represents or controls a geographic location, you may have a Page for it. However, that Page's name must clearly reference your organization. For example, "New York City – Mayor's Office," "Lok Sabha – Parliament of India" and "Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain" are acceptable Page names."
Sounds like the name "New Haven, CT – City of New Haven" would be appropriate then.
