In addition to the lagoon looking and smelling bad for those of us who live near it, it just reflects badly on our city. It's the most visible lagoon to the public, across the street from South Shore Center, on a major thoroughfare and seen by thousands at the annual July 4th Parade. Maintenance (let alone improvements) is long over due.
It's really disgusting, and it happens over and over. I just walked by it again on my way to the mall. What a lovely view for everyone on the 4th of July as they all walked down Otis. The people at the end of the street have to put up with the stench on a constant basis; it only reaches our house (8 houses away) when it's really hot or windy. Completely unacceptable when we are paying thousands of dollars in property taxes.
How do we get it onto a regular schedule of cleaning?
I've spoken with the City Works dept. several times and they have a contract with a company that's supposed to clean it regularly (once or twice a month?). However, this NEVER happens with regularity so either some other lagoon is getting extra servicing or the city is paying for services that are not being rendered per the contract. Either way, it's awful and cannot be properly fixed until the lagoon is dredged to clear out the silt and build up of 50+ years. That was halted back in 2014 due to environmental concerns and local home owners are on a quest to make it a top priority again. Unfortunately, North Shore home owners have very little power or voice (which we are also looking to address). Thank you for your support.
Area has been cleaned up and Clean Lakes has been made aware of the dumping and will show this area extra attention. Sincerely, Gail Carlson, Public Works
