Truman House- has built a rooftop bar that has a propane gas grill, smoking patrons, full bar spread left out in the open overnight, dangerous sheets used for curtains blowing around propane gas grill. This is a fire hazards and many objects left in the open overnight could become projectiles if a weather storm was to arrive.
A fire inspection, building inspection, and proper use permits and licensing inspection needs to take place for this completed construction work that is now in full use.

The Truman House Apartments have almost completed a full cosmetic upgrade to all residences and addressed major building life-cycle maintenance issues and upgrades that all buildings approaching 100 years must tackle. Amazingly, the building's owner HAS NOT raised rents outside of the rent control caps, despite their right to do so after projects like this one. The Truman House Apartments are proud to offer one the newest, nicest and affordable rental residential experiences in the area.
The most recent unit to receive a makeover had a large attic space incorporated into the living area. While replacing the roof, the old deck was repaired and also incorporated into the newly utilized space. The deck/patio space was further enhanced by the new tenant to include other outdoor facilities, like the bar and grill mentioned in this post. The management and building owner directly supervised the tenant's improvements to ensured that every law and safety measure was fully observed and implemented.
The built-in grill, per DC & The International Building Code, uses natural gas delivered by a hard line; NOT PROPANE TANKS. Fire detection and suppression measures were also included. The sun shade is supported by a welded solid iron frame, 2" thick! Again, this is a private patio and not a commercial bar, but the tenant did such a great job, we can see why there might be some confusion. I am sure the tenant intends to fully utilize the space much the same way neighboring building roof decks and pools are also used in good weather.
After reading this post, we did speak with the tenant who besides being flattered by the inferred compliment of a professional-looking space, assured us that objects are secured during inclement weather. A recent inspection has confirmed this to be satisfactory.
The Truman House Apartments are delighted to deliver such a unique and exquisite new residence to the best neighborhood in DC! We are thankful to have such vigilant and concerned neighbors. That's one of the many aspects that makes the 1400 block of N Street, NW a strong community that is enhanced by its residents.
