Description

The creek that winds through Lockwood neighborhood serves as stormwater drainage and also feeds the wetland and Crabtree creek downstream. It is full of downed trees and other tornado debris. Residents who live on the low side of the creek are already sandbagging their back doors because when it rains very hard, the creek can't drain quickly enough and floods the backyards. This creek is the primary storm drainage for this neighborhood and the situation will get worse with the increased rain in the fall and winter. Residents have been told that the cleanup of this area is being set out for bid, and that letters will be sent out requesting permission from residents to come onto private property for access to this creek, but no residents that I have spoken to have reported receiving these letters yet. This issue affects the entire neighborhood- in the summertime, the mosquito population was much greater than usual, and if the creek cannot drain properly, stormwater backups are inevitable.
