Description
At this intersection, the left line turns left and the other lines are suppose to proceed straight. However, drivers in the middle line always veer over into the far right line. Drivers assume that the road only becomes one as you cross over in front of the Shrimp Boat. For the safety of pedistarians and drivers the lines in the road need to be painted and enhanced similar to the paint at Florida Ave NE and H Street NE ( approximately 1431 H Street NE ). The turning lane and the non turning lanes are clearly marked. The same upgraded markings are needed at this intersection.
I frequent this intersection and have almost had several accidents do to the lack of road paint to keep the middle lane drivers proceeding in their line. Drivers assume the middle and right merges and become lane. This is a very dangerous intersection and I am concerned for my family safety every time I drive through it.

The lane markings are not defined well enough at the intersection of Benning Rd at East Capitol St. Traveling north on Benning rd. There are 3 lanes of traffic. There is a left turn lane to go west on East Capitol st and the other 2 lanes proceed north across East Capitol st. However the driver in the middle lane usually cuts off the driver in the far right lane because they don't move over to the far left lane once they cross East Capitol st. There are no directional lines drawn. This has happened to me many times and it has probably happened to others.
Please fix this.

I am requesting guiding lines and reflectors through the intersection. Also, I am requesting for DDOT to do a night walk-through/ street recording of the street to view the concerns that Mrs. Deborah Jones and I are voicing on behalf of residents. Due to the slope and none guiding lines at the intersection, drivers are not aware that there are three lines through the intersection during the night time. One lane turns left and two lanes go straight. It is unclear for drivers especially at night. Weekly at night, I feel that my family is at risk when we go through this intersection. For example, last night (10/15) and tonight (10/16), I was almost in an accident on each night. At night, drivers from the middle line always merge into the far right lane. Based on the current condition of the street, it appears that the far right and middle lane becomes one lane. This is the reason why drivers believe that they need to merge into the right lane through the intersection. The inspection is not clear at night and I strongly urge that DDOT put upgraded paint, guiding lines and reflectors in this intersection for my family and neighbors' safety. Please review the picture that I have uploaded of Benning Road and Bladensburg Road. This is an example of what I am recommending for Benning Road and East Capitol Road. But, I strongly believe this intersection also need reflectors because it post such an hazard in my community.
Thank you in advance for your assistance with ensuring the safety of my family and community.
