An inspector inspected the property on 5/15/2014 and – vegetation/ shrubs growing on both sides of the fence, therefore no enforcement action required/ no violations.

The fence/barbed wire issue has been referred to the Zoning Dept, we will follow-up with them.

Great! As of June 9th we still have not heard anything back regarding the hazardous, uprotted barred wire fence within the city limits.

The uprooted fence is not regulated by any City ordinance. It may be a liability for the property owner but is not an issue that the City regulates.

What about the barbed wire below 5 ft.??

This does not appear to be barbed wire from the photo, but a fairly typical chain link fence that has fallen over. If that is not the case and there is actual barbed wire here please re-open this post and we'll work with the property owner.

The use of barbed wire on any lot containing one (1) or more dwellings, congregate care, or congregate living structures is prohibited in the City of Raleigh and shall not be installed after application of this ordinance.* All nonconforming existing barbed wire shall be removed within one (1) year after initial application of this ordinance. What does your inspector look at when they come out. This is a JOKE right????

This is in FACT a barbed wire fence.

We will send an inspector out, but the photo attached is clearly a chain link fence, not a barbed-wire fence. I will post an update when the inspector has had a chance to investigate.

We have issued a “Notice of Violation” to the apartment complex related to the barbed wire fence. They have until August 14, 2014 to remove all barbed wire that is at the top of the chain link fence. Our inspector will continue to follow up until the wire is removed. Thanks for reporting!
