The brick and paved walkway leading from the corner of 22nd and Franklin streets up and around the hill to the corner of 23rd and Grace streets has been broken, weed-covered, and dangerous for several years (since the devastation of Storm Gaston!). It is the best route to walk to or from Church Hill and Shockoe Bottom but remains difficult-to-impossible to traverse. In addition, there are still large tree branches on and along the route. The stairway leading from 22nd and Franklin up behind Richmond Hill was finally repaired a couple of years ago, but the sidewalk remains an unsightly and perilous blight.

Some mowing was done,but very badly.
The walkway has not been repaired and remains perilous and unsightly and sad.

Time to stop outsourcing maintenance of city owned properties, as things continue to deteriorate. Just simple trash pickup and regular grass trimming would be a nice surprise. This is the most pathetic, ineffective city administration in the city's history.

A cluttered mess. Perhaps making it a groomed pathway would allow the. It's to avoid massive repaving and there could be a border of the wildflower a along the edges of the path after removing loose bricks. Then maybe Parks Depr. could CUT the grass going diwn the hill to Franklin Street on a regular basis.

This area is still in need of fixing. Since the mowing schedule is in dire need of fixing, perhaps this could, at least, be moved to the head of the line since there has been in need for so long.

This walkway is in need of repair and care and has needed it for more than a dozen years. It has been reported to various city employees for at least half that long.

Hello? Anybody there? Waiting for a new mayor who will actually take care of the city and its inhabitants?

How sad to see the abandonment and neglect of this historic walkway from Church Hill to Shockoe Bottom. If the city is serious about encouraging biking and walking, it should be shown by keeping the pedestrian routes open and maintained.

This walkway is worse than ever. There is barely a path to get through in places, and both the pavement and bricks are so messed up, the danger of tripping and falling is huge.

It appears that someone in the City admin has decided to let this area become forest and totally obliterate the walkway that has been important in getting from Church Hill to downtown.
Please pay attention to Church Hill, which has provided huge tax base growth for Richmond in the past couple of decades. It is more neglected now than it was when slumlords were the majority of property owners.

Thanks to a Council aide, the area was somewhat mowed a month ago. However, the saplings are continuing to grow, the dead branches from old trees are falling and doing damage, and the walkway is still broken and dangerous. This historic area deserves more care.

Mowing and cutting has been done... very raggedly with many “spikes” of young trees left standing. The sidewalk is still dangerous—especially the brick portion. Seeing all the brick sidewalk repair going on around the area, I am hoping attention will finally be paid on this Hill. Thank you.

The sidewalk remains dangerous-- both the concrete portions and the brick portions. Loose bricks all around, huge cracks causing walkers to trip and fall. It's been 14 years since this walkway was wrecked, and neglect has made it worse over time. The few beautiful oak trees still standing are shedding big branches and need some care. This could and should be a lovely bit of green in the city. Please!

This issue will NEVER be resolved as the Public Works Department simply does not have the money in the budget to care for any of our parks properly. If a corporation would by naming rights, then the corporation would care for it. Unfortunately, to be properly maintained, all our parks will have to be privatized like Monroe Park. Any suggestions?? So sad to have a city full of beautiful parks that have a veil of neglect thrown over them.

yeah - sidewalks in Church Hill are a mess. Try taking your grandson for a walk in his stroller! The city wants us to move here from the burbs which we did - but, I have to say,services out in the burbs are faster, better. This year we had a water main break on E Broad, flood our storage area and then the city says they are not responsible. Is this the way to run a city?

No progress.
It appears that the City of Richmond no longer pays any attention to this site. Very disappointing...
especially as there is no viable option to deal with these problems directly to City Hall.

Still waiting. Too many sidewalks in the Church Hill community are in terrible and dangerous shape— the worst in many years, in spite of the fact that the city receives far more tax dollars from residents than ever before. With each administration, we hope for improvement in the city’s caretaking; and with each administration things become more neglected and damaged.

Sidewalk becoming more dangerous. Now the area is becoming a dumping ground for both animal waste (in bags!) and leftover trash... bins, coat hangers, and the usual bottles, cans and plastic bags. The graffiti on the wall of Richmond Hill now covers the entire south wall. A very sad state for historic park land that is supposed to be maintained by the city. Residents can't keep up with the mess.

It’s a joke— but not a funny one— that the City has never repaired this walkway. I have been told that the info from seeclickfix does not go to anyone there, but they don’t react and repair when notified via their own site or when the appropriate Council representative is contacted. It’s a practical joke on the taxpayers who fund their comfortable lives.
