It's 8:20 pm on Saturday and a motorcyclist just blew down this long stretch, engine blasting, riding ONLY ON HIS BACK WHEEL AT FULL SPEED. Seriously, this needs to stop now. It's quality of life issues like this that cause all the decent, quiet, law abiding citizens to look for saner cities in which to raise their families. How is my infant son even going to nap in all this chaos?

there are already plenty of speed bumps(potholes) on poplar st. lets get those fixed first.

Poplar Street was just repaved a year or two ago, or at least this stretch (that this issue covers) was repaved, so potholes aren't the issue. We are in desperate need of SOMETHING by the corner of Poplar & Chatham to slow these idiots down. Yesterday afternoon a champagne colored Ford Explorer gunned it down the stretch and reached 50 MPH before peeling around the corner onto Lombard, with tires screeching. This is a neighborhood with lots of kids out on their bikes, playing ball, walking the dog, etc, and we should not have to live with this sort of domestic terrorism, the deliberate disregard for the safety of the residents of this street. This is still a HUGE problem, and I've not received a single constructive suggestion or comment from the Department of Traffic & Parking about it. Again, I'm not in favor of stop signs per se, and I realize they do not contribute positively to traffic calming, so PLEASE suggest something else, and soon! Cars routinely reach 40+ MILES PER HOUR--40! speeding through this stretch of Poplar Street, and we have many, many kids playing ball and riding bikes (plus the recent influx of dirt bikes and quads). We either need enforcement or a preventative traffic calming measure here.

Requesting a stop sign is a process, involving several different stages in order to determine if the location being requested is warranted. The first step in the process would be to present a request to your Alderperson. He or she will review the information and follow up by contacting the Transportation, Traffic and Parking Department. Once the request is received by the department, staff will review the request and determine its viability based on guidelines given to us in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, issued by the Federal Highway Administration. Intersections must meet federal criteria in order to install a stop sign. If the warrant reveals the criteria is met, the department will submit a final recommendation to the Traffic Authority for approval and installation. This process can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months. Thank you for your concern in this matter.

I have address the issue with some of the residents, speed bumps are a better solution to the problem. Traffic and Parking are suppose to put speed bumps on Fillmore between Lombard and Pine, maybe we can add Poplar to the job.I would be happy to meet with you.
