Clemens is not convenient for people who would live on North and South Magnolia, though. When folks come home at night from a busy day at work or school, many do not want to walk an extra block (or at least that is not what folks are doing). Based on the amount of traffic I see every day at the Magnolia Street CATA bus stop(s), it would be appropriate to have a crosswalk at Magnolia, as it is a fairly popular bus stop for people living on North and South Magnolia and Fairview. I have talked with others who live on Magnolia, as well who feel that this is an issue, as well.

The City generally does not install marked crosswalks on multi-lane roadways except at signalized intersections and signal installation is prioritized based on need and budget. For this location to meet the requirements of signalization, there would need to be a minimum of 100 pedestrians crossing at this location each hour for a minimum of 4 hours on a typical day. Available information indicates that this location doesn't currently meet these requirements. Signals are available, however, two blocks either way, at Clemens and Foster. We will look at this location to determine if there are sidewalk ramp or visibility issues that need to be addressed.

Is there a way to use CATA #1 data as a proxy for the number of people using this intersection / crossing on foot? I do see people standing there all the time, waiting for the bus. And Andy, what about the induced demand that would be created by the installation of safe crossing infrastructure ;)?

Also, I would be interested to know the numbers for pedestrian traffic on Clemens and Foster Aves intersections. Is there any way the public may access that type of information? I have never had an issue crossing at Magnolia. With a little patience, traffic clears because of the lights two blocks in either direction. I find this intersection to be well lit for night crossing. I'd rather the city attend to more urgent needs, personally.

Just stumbled across this older issue. If in the next couple of years the Bus Rapid Transit plans come to fruition this problem may be "solved" with the reduced number of stations/stops that will located near intersections with traffic lights.
