Though the building was torn down after years of neglect, the pier is still degrading into the channel, obstructing bots and polluting the water.

The SF Port doesn't have the money to take down the pier. The yellow floats around the pier are meant to capture any debris that falls in to the water. Because on paper the pier is technically a piece of land...that's right, LAND....they are technically not able to tear it down. They must, for these two reasons, let it fall apart, at least for right now.
I suggest you look in to becoming involved with the CAC groups in the neighborhood. You would learn a lot and possibly have a positive affect on the neighborhood. Complaining via SeeClickFix does very little but frustrate you more.

Those may the facts (and I know that to be the case) but the reply was unnecessarily condescending. My issue with this dilapidated pier site is that whoever tore down the building couldn't bother to take all the detritus from the surface (old planters, etc.). If this is to be a constructive forum then I would suggest that the phrase "...complaining via SeeClickFix does very little but frustrate you more" is inappropriate. I think it's a great way to share frustrations!

If the Port of SF can't afford to maintain their property, it shouldn't be their property to maintain. I can balance my budget and take care of my place; why can't they?
And I would attend CAC meetings if they were held at times amenable to people who are gainfully employed outside the immediate neighborhood. And what about the fact that the CAC members were appointed by the mayor years ago and that some members 1) don't live or work in Mission Bay or 2) don't pay property taxes because they live in a houseboat that's similarly surrounded by floating trash and decaying into the channel.

I fail to understand what additional information is needed. The picture clearly shows a pier decaying into Channel Creek, parts of which break off and float into the channel, obstructing recreational boaters and posing a general blight on the neighborhood. What information could I provide that will be of use? That it's been this way for years? The the Port can't maintain its property?
There was a crew here last week tearing down the worst part of it, at its terminus. But the rest of the pier remains and needs to be torn down.
