Beschreibung
Curvy road, low visibility, neighorhoods on both sides of the road, pedestrians and cyclists make the current speed limit unsafe. A fatal accident occurred several months ago wherein a motorcyclist was killed. Speed of the automobile causing the accident was a contributing factor. The NYS Department of Transportation was notified of the safety issues prior to the accident and after. They declined to take action to reduce the speed limit on this stretch of road.

I am also a resident and I live very close to the intersection of Rowland and Grand. There have been numerous accidents at this intersection in the 10 years I have lived in this location. The speed limit is simply too high.
The speed limit on Rowland does not reflect the way the community is now using the road. There has been significant residential development in this area over the last several years. That means more cars, more cyclists, more pedestrians, and more children. Rowland in this area connects several neighborhoods where hundreds of school aged children live. I do not allow my children to ride their bikes the short stretch to their friend's houses less than a mile away because Rowland, despite being a neighborhood connector road, is simply not safe for cycling.

The speed limit is definitely NOT too high- and it's definitely not the problem or cause of accidents! Poeple just need to use caution and not drive like morons! If anything- there should be a light put in at the Grand/Rowland Intersection- that is a horrible spot esepcially if you are trying to take a turn- but it has nothing to do with the speed limit- it has more to do with the high volume traffic and no stop light there and people driving like they are invincible!
I live in this area too- and have 2 small children. I would NEVER let my children walk / ride bikes on Rowland- it's way too busy of a street. But lowering the speed limit will not deter the trucks and heavy traffic nor will it ever change my mind about not letting my children ride/walk alone on that street! It will just make it more difficult to turn on to Rowland from any of the side streets- including Adams Rd and Grand Ave.
People should really stop trying to blame accidents on speed limits- the speed limit could be 20 mph on that road and the accidents would have still happened and will continue to happen. We really just need to take more caution on that and any other road!!!!!!!
