I know it is well meaning, but it concerns me how our neighborhood is dealing with the spike in homelessness. The police (they get it; there are no solutions. and dump truck responded today. I spoke with them and the men who have been living between the warehouses. The "pile of junk" is relative; it is another persons home and 'biz'. He exchanges items in order to get money for survival. what you see on the street isn't done by free choice, it is people coping with our systems ineptness in responding to our human needs. Assistance for men is a few hundred and shelters, when available, are condensed and volatile for anyone. Witnessing a helpless person who is trying to build up a life be thrown down by police and a trash truck is not only sad but given the options, it is not practical. If you've complained before, please go down and witness the situation when the trash truck comes. Imagine how we will handle it and each other when that time comes, if it does. we can do better. just let them be and offer support. don't let the developers on our street and neighborhood dictate to us what our street looks like.
I am assuming that you are speaking of the gentleman and his belongings on 61st PLACE. He has done a lot to take care of his things and that thread has been closed for months. This is about a real pile of trash- a broken chair, two garbage bags full of trash, a large cardboard box full of trash and other debris that has been piled up for about three weeks now.
Thanks. I ll continue to keep the guys updated on these posts. It helps them prepare before trash truck arrives. It terrible to watch what occured today. For neighbor info, police report the white trailer is property of home owner around the corner. No need to report.
