I too live on Hillcrest and have been complaining about this for a while. No one seems to want to do anything about it. It seems as if the word is spreading among truck drivers that this is the place to park your truck when not in use. I have seen drivers of these trucks getting out of the truck and getting picked up to go home. The drivers do not live where the trucks are parked. The police will only ticket if they are in a bus stop or too close to a corner or driveway. Hamden does not seem to care but if this were happening in Spring Glen I bet it would be stopped immediately.

I second this. I don't picture this being allowed in Spring Glen.

Two things, in Spring Glen they would be on the traveled portion of the road, on Dixwell they are not. Number two, Dixwell is a state road, complain to your state rep or the DOT.

Dixwell may be a state route, but it is policed by the town. I do not see it patrolled or drivers being pulled over by state troopers. And almost any time I do see a traffic stop, there are two or three town cop cars available for this.

...and there IS on street parking in Spring Glen. Stick one of these loaded car carriers in front of the vacant Spring Glen Hardware store and see how long it gets tolerated.

Oct 6. There is a huge refrigeration truck parked across from me on Dixwell Ave near Haig St. I saw the driver being picked up at approximately 9 am. He was returned to the truck approx 5pm. He left the refrigetation unit on the trailer running the whole time. It was very annoying hearing that rumble all day. It has been a half an hour and he has finally pulled away. This has got to stop.

The Mayor’s Office has had this identified as an important issue that negatively affects the surrounding community and Hamden as a whole. We have been working with our Engineering and Traffic Departments as well as the CT Department of Transportation on this issue. In terms of immediate remedies, Route 10 is a State of Connecticut road and parking is not determined by Town ordinance. There are several long and short term solutions we are pursuing to address this. We are also looking at ways to engage the community further on this issue and will communicate more shortly.
