I attach above the original petition, submitted by email to Ms. Stockton, on 10/2019. Hurricane Ida flooded this part of Linden and caused water damage in several homes, making this request more urgent. Thank you.
Dear neighbors: This is a request to add a curb and stormwater drains to Linden Ln, between Franklin and Guyot. It was originally submitted as a petition to the Engineering Dept on October 2, 2019. The planned construction on Linden (to replace sewer pipes) is an ideal opportunity to also add stormwater plumbing.
This is an important commuting route for hundreds of middle school students. When the street and the sidewalk are flooded, it creates dangerous conditions for our students and cars. Please consider this a warning - if a child gets hurt, the township was warned but did nothing about it.
We fully support this petition, a curb and stormwater drains are needed now in Linden Ln, between Franklin and Guyot. It is basically the only street that does not have it in the neighbourhood, and the recent Ida hurricane showed how important this is even more.
I am a resident of Ewing St, backing onto Linden Ln, and walk or drive this route daily - fully agree that this area is overdue for curbs and drains to mitigate flooding.
With more often extreme weather, there are significantly more flooding on Linden Lane, north of Franklin session, which brings many tough time for the residents living here. There is no enough curb and storm water drains on this session, and then the water accumulated along sidewalks. I cannot get into and get out of car, and even get difficulties to get into house during the bad weather. Meanwhile, the street is adjacent to PHS and PMS, hundreds students go through this street to school and back to home. There are potential risk for the residents and students.
There are so many improvement procedures are ongoing around this session, other than Linden Lane, north of Franklin. We strongly ask the township and mayor to think about the risk environment we are live and put the improvement construction of new drains on your calendar.
Thank you for your understanding.
As a resident living on Linden Lane ( between Franklin and Guyot) for 38 years I see street flooding after every torrential rain and nice grass on roadside being trodden by carelessly-parked cars. We sent a petition over a year ago, but nothing has been done so far while the other section of Linden Lane (between Franklin and Nassau)has been well provided with nice curbs, sidewalks and drain system. How much longer do we need to wait to have curbs to protect our nice grass and drains to keep our street constantly passable and sidewalks for students to ride their bike to school and back home safe.May I expect a quick action from you soon? Please.
We support this petition wholeheartedly and would add that the lack of drainage worsens in winter when Linden Lane turns to ice and endangers students walking to and from school.
We have lived here for more than 27 years. We like this community. But the street drainage system is a big problem. Whenever the rainstorm comes, there is not enough drainage system on the street, so that there is water everywhere. We submitted a petition to the city government more than a year ago to solve this problem. But to this day, there is still no response. I hope you can consider the difficulties of the residents here and solve this problem as soon as possible.
Hello:
I am in total support of my fellow Princeton Residents on Linden Lane affected by the constant flooding in their request to the municipality for immediate attention and action to redress this problem that has been festering for decades. It needs to be fixed now! Having proper storm water draingage on public street is a basic public service that demands priority attention from the relevant public agencies and officials. This is something to ponder, the decision to evaluate, engineer and approve the recent Whitherspoon Street project can be done in little over a year yet the constant threat of flooding on a stretch of Linden lane has been put on the back burner for year after year. Why? Yes both issue being discussed here are a quality of life matter but something that so negatively affects the residents
home and the immediate area should take precedent in being taken cared of.
1.If there is a strom drain pipe already in place in the part of Linden Lane under discussion?
2.Has any calculation been carried out to determine how much more water will be released into Harry's Brook if drain openings are installed? Will that amount contribute significantly to flooding of residenced near Harry's Brook?
Greatly appreciated if ED rep can have the answer at tomorrow 12/3 SWC meeting.
The residents of Linden Ln made a presentation to the Pedestrian & Bicycle Advisory Committee on 12/6/2021, regarding the hazardous conditions at the Linden sidewalk between Franklin and Guyot as well as the Linden-Franklin intersection. The presentation is available at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-7wRni2JTRT1tcqJuBoEth2_BoeDedci/view?usp=sharing
This photo is the crosswalk at the Linden-Franklin intersection (NW corner) on the morning of 1/10/2022. Ice covers the entire span of the crosswalk. Hundreds of middle/high school commute through this intersection, yet it is unsafe and unusable in cold weather.
This photo shows a stream running down the west side of Linden Ln (north of Franklin) on the morning of 2/5/2022. There are no stormwater drains on Linden (between Franklin and Guyot), causing this flooding. Note that the width of the stream is wider than the stormwater drain at the bottom left corner of the photo.
Here is a video taken on 2/5/2022:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-2U9HLGJWUrbZZphCqK4ARkPIUlxpOY0/view?usp=sharing It shows that the stormwater drain at the Linden-Franklin intersection cannot capture all the water that runs down Linden. We need stormwater drains on Linden to capture the water before it gets to the Linden-Franklin intersection.
This is a photo of the Linden Ln sidewalk (just north of Franklin, in front of the house on 149 Linden). Hundreds of middle-school children commute on this sidewalk, yet flooding makes it unusable in wet weather.
Even though it is not a heavy rain at all, the session of Linden will turn into ponds and running river, without drains. The driveways are blocked, and the hundreds students have to walk in the middle of the road.
Hope the situation will be resolved.
Further to the ongoing request for fixing the flooding (and icing) problem at the intersection of Linden Lane and Franklin Street I would like to make the following point. A comparison with Ewing Street is instructive:
Linden Lane between Guyot and Franklin has only two drains, one at the Guyot end, the highest point of the street; the other at Franklin. All of the rainwater on Linden running downhill flows into the Franklin Street drain which floods constantly, and ices over frequently, because it is the only place in the two-block stretch for the water to go.
Ewing Street, by contrast, has four storm drains: one at Guyot, but the other three well-spaced along the downhill stretch between Henry and Franklin, so that Ewing drains effectively and without flooding.
The issue that you submitted has been addressed and we are now closing this request. Should you need anything further, please feel free to submit another request or you may contact the Engineering Department at (609) 921-7077.
