How long does it take to build a simple non-span important bridge? We are ready to celebrate our 5th anniversary of too many wrecks with a horrible death from an accident, side roads on both sides of this road bridge "construction" similar to road rage and demolition derby, pushing pile up of cars sending a vehicle crashing over the bridge hitting the side boulders then crashing straight down into the cold river with no survivors, a MAJOR road and bridge for ALL emergency responders 24/7 and work

This project has not only taken too long, taken out a beautiful handicapped ramp with gate, but also closed our area of the Riverfront Park of the Three Rivers Greenway at the most beautiful end of Columbia Canal and Riverfront Park at the Diversion Dam. We have no access from 2 sides of this popular place where many types of birds come to eat 2 times a day, have missed out on the spring and summer tours of the fish tracking system in SC from here down to the Mississippi and the ocean and back. Joggers, bikers, USC running team, walkers alone or with families, and those who live in housing subdivisions, condos, and nice apartment complexes no longer have egress to our park nor to the rest of the Riverfront Park downtown to enjoy. It's like we NEVER had a park! It should NEVER take this long to build a bridge but fast to destroy what we had and the handicapped people who could go to the park from thew bridge. I wonder how much it cost to place that access there and if it will ever be returned for the handicapped. The way it looks now, it may NEVER be back! Traffic is horrible and hard to get onto Broad River from there nor go from Bentley Drive across to River Drive to Skyland Estates. It has needed a working red light for years not a caution light. We just had a death there several weeks ago from an accident as 2 - 3 cars were involved with one going over into the river. When is this park, handicapped ramp, and bridge no longer going to be MIA (MISSING IN ACTION)!? This is a total travesty, waste of time, taken away from property values, and should have never been redesigned this way. WE almost lost the one side of the bridge last spring from a rain storm with the barge holding a crane leaning towards falling into the almost one side of the completed other end of this bridge!
  • 600 Broad River Road And 4146 River Drive Columbia/Richland, South Carolina 29210 - Columbia
Look up all these issues I've reported about for 4 years: Broad River Road Bridge, Columbia Canal, Three Rivers Greenway shut down and cut off, affective roads way up to Greystone Blvd., accident with death when car was pushed over the bridge crashing into the rocks ending with a dead driver, closed fairly new handicapped entrance on the bridge into the park, heavy rain that almost sent the crane on a rubber barge into the bridge which could have taken out all bridges downtown, traffic causing potholes and roads ruined to subdivisions on both sides of the road (Huffman Heights and Skyland Estates with many condos and nice apartment homes) still not finished after 4 years. I want the report to go to WIS-TV, the STATE NEWSPAPER, CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT #2 PERSON IN CHARGE, CITY COUNCIL, THREE RIVERS GREENWAY, AND the NEW MAYOR BENJAMIN. How long does it take to build a bridge without spans? No bridge downtown would be acceptable to travelers if this was theirs! Drivers and workers coming from and going to the hospitals utilize this bridge and roads 2 times a day! And we have ambulances and fire trucks who highly travel this bridge. Millions was spent on the fish channel that rangers gave tours in the spring and summer explaining the importance of our Diversion Dam and fish channel. What are you going to do about destruction to the Three Rivers Greenway trails at the Columbia Canal and Broad River paths here? The traffic way up to Greystone Blvd. is DANGEROUS; we've a red light where Greystone Blvd. meets Broad River Road at the BP Station with drivers from both sides of the road with blind spots trying to get onto Greystone or Broad River at that light with 3 lanes there!
  • Greystone And Broad River Rd Columbia, SC - Richland County
Turning onto Broad River Road from Greystone Blvd. The Traffic Light Has a long wait time. Today for instance i waited 2min and 25 seconds on that light to change and no traffic was coming. Can this time be shortened a little?
  • 638-710 Broad River Rd Columbia, SC - Columbia
People, everyone knows that it goes from two lanes to one lane to a bridge that is closed on one side. Driving Dangerously only causes more delays!!
  • 400-406 Broad River Bridge Columbia, SC - Columbia
Please see CLICK, FIX to read 33 votes and comments WISTV. THIS HAS BEEN AND STILL IS DANGEROUS FOR 2 OUT OF 4 YEARS AND COUNTING!
  • 100 Greystone Boulevard Columbia, South Carolina - Richland County
    1. Traffic problems from the bridge, all along that area of Broad River Road and Greystone Blvd. to include Riverhill Ct. around Huffman Heights Subdivision with apartment homes and condos along Bentley Drive and all around Atlantic Drive. This includes many road hazards and accidents also to include Skyland Estates across Broad River Road. These roads are HIGHLY used by St. Andres Fire Department, various ambulances, and rescue trucks.

  • Broad River Bridge "Missing In Action" Columbia, South Carolina - Columbia

    Dear Andrew and Other Commentors,
If it was you or someone else, I appreciate the pictures on this Broad River Road bridge so much. I just found them not knowing they were here or how long. I wish they were or newer ones were on the "ClickFix" web sight. There needs to be an update of pictures and comments.

I know you said you thought it would open May or June 2013, but the part of the road/bridge side going into town seems to be still "Missing In Action!" When is the last time you were there to see this from both sides? It seems as if it will never re-open. I can't believe it's been 4 years!

There are more people with houses for sale now than I have ever seen especially Atlantic Drive in Huffman Heights Subdivision with 13 for sale signs! No one can drive on Atlantic, turn right, go down Bentley Drive, and turn left to go straight into town or across Broad River Road into Skyland Estates! I'm seeing more houses with for sale signs there, too. Greenville Circle has more for sale or empty. Homes rarely were being sold. If they were, they were elderly estates, and they sold the same day or 2 days later. They just sit from frustration of how the roads around are stopping people from going where they want and trying to avoid a lot of traffic.

Have you read all my posts since 2011?

We still can't walk to the end of Riverfront Park's Diversion Dam with that expansion of a special fish channel with tours 5 years ago. We can't walk down to Riverfront Park from Diversion Dam houses and condos and apartments in neighborhoods on the long hillside part of Broad River. We can't even walk past the Broad River bridge but just to the bridge!

And they still have the bottom path by the river (not upper Columbia Canal one) torn apart and closed off. I'm not sure even if the park is open. The damage done to this side of Riverfront Park will be expensive to fix.

We'd all be open here when parts of Cayce and the amphitheater closes from too much rain. They have to keep closing it down and cleaning it up and repeating it over again.

Thanks for your contributions to this "Broad River Road Missing in Action" problem.
