Somebody complained that the elevators at Cardinal Medeiros Towers weren't inspected, and now I know why. The Fall River Housing Authority knows that they aren't safe! I tried to go downstairs and pressed the button. Even though it's early in the morning, all four of them seemed to be in use. When one finally came to my floor, I got on and pushed the button for the first floor. It stopped on random floors all the way down to the lobby! Floor lights kept coming on for random floors, without being touched! These elevators are a lawsuit, waiting to happen!

We have just been forced to endure a "pre-HUD inspection" by the Fall River Housing Authority. That means that we'll also have to endure another inspection when the HUD inspectors show up. While we have to endure inspection after inspection, why doesn't the FRHA have to inspect the elevators on time? The required yearly inspection for some of the elevators is over three months overdue! The FRHA claims that the repeated apartment inspections are for the health and well being of the residents. If that's true, how is it possible for them to justify searching apartments for leaky faucets while ignoring potentially unsafe elevators?

The entrance lobby is crawling with insects. I went downstairs to check my mail, and when I returned I had to remove a number of them or risk them getting into my apartment. The management forces us to let them inspect our apartments whenever they want, but they seem to refuse to spray the public areas. No wonder there are so many bugs in this place!

Please do something about the Comcast monopoly on cable service! My landlord doesn't allow dish antennas on my building, or I would have left Comcast long ago. Comcast keeps raising rates, taking away channels, and forcing us to subsidize beggars (religious channels) and foreign language programming. Please give us an option other than having to pay for the mayor's propaganda channels!

In this building, we have reserved parking for residents. Each resident with a reserved parking place is given a specific, numbered, space, and a sticker for our vehicles. These parking spaces are clearly marked. In the past, the Fall River Housing Authority allowed residents to call the tow truck directly whenever a car was in our reserved space. Not long ago, the city council forced residents to call the police in order to have cars ticketed or towed. Maybe the city council figured that this would bring in more money for the city, except for the fact that the police either don't show up when called or refuse to tag or tow offending vehicles! If I parked my car in the mayor's driveway, you can bet that I'd be tagged or towed in a matter of minutes, but the poor, elderly, and handicapped of this city aren't afforded that same level of protection. Please restore our rights to have cars towed from our reserved spaces, or find a way to get the police to wake up and do their jobs!

I just tried to call the office of the Fall River Housing Authority to report that their intercom system wasn't working again. Evidently, someone from maintenance answered the phone, and replied "Good, f**k you!" and hung up on me! I realize that being poor makes me something less than human, but we still deserve a little respect! All I wanted was to tell them that there was a problem with their entry intercom, and now I have to consider the possibility of suing them in Housing Court AGAIN!

For the second day in a row, we've been without water. No water for drinking, no water for toilets, no water for washing... When you call the office, if you can ever get through to a person, they give you a run around, and claim that they will "check with maintenance". Unfortunately, they never tell us when we'll get our water restored. If someone kept their pets without water for two days, the city would take them to court, but I guess nobody cares about the elderly and handicapped.

The FRHA installed an updated intercom system not too long ago, that allowed tenants to "buzz in" guests. We also have after hour security guards that are supposed to make guests identify themselves before they're allowed into the building. The problem is that the new intercom isn't working and the security guards are letting guests sneak in. The other day they let a stranger in who didn't know which apartment he wanted, so he went door to door, harassing residents while looking into apartments! It's no wonder why the neighbors say this place is becoming a slum!

The Fall River Housing Authority is ignoring our elevators again. The elevators are supposed to be inspected every year, according to Massachusetts law, but some of ours are over four months past due. If I drove my car with an expired inspection sticker and got caught, I would have to pay a fine, but the FRHA never gets so much as a slap on the wrist. If the elevators weren't unsafe, why do they refuse to have them inspected?

The intercom system that controls the main door has been inoperative for a long time now. While it had recently been replaced, and I have made a number of calls to the Housing Authority, visitors and delivery people are still unable to use it to enter the building. Some of us residents are handicapped and unable to unable to rush down to the lobby in order to admit visitors and delivery people. If our maintenance people are refusing to maintain the building, I'd like to know what they do all day.

A few years ago I took the FRHA to court for refusing to enforce the pet policy. Recently they've allowed another dog here, and it's owner refuses to control it. It barks and runs loose, and while the management is aware of it, they seem to do nothing. Is it time for another trip to MCAD?
