There is a rut nearly a foot deep on the north side of Waite St. a bit east of Barrett St. It could damage a vehicle if it runs just off the pavement. Suggest cones be put up until it can be repaired.

There is a fire alarm box on the Russell St. corner of the church. Is it still connected to the fire department? Should it be removed, or a sign added to call 911 to report a fire?

Partially fallen tree leaning against utility lines. At about Farmington Canal Greenway mile 8.95.
  • 640 Ridge Rd. Hamden, CT - Spring Glen
Several tree branches are obstructing the sidewalk on Waite St. next to Bassett Park. Biggest problem is a large detached limb which is hanging from another limb and could fall on the sidewalk. I'm guessing the Town owns these trees in the wooded area next to the park.
  • 1670 Whitney Ave. Hamden, CT - Spring Glen
There has been no street sign on this corner for several years now. Even with the wide availability of navigation systems, signs are essential for those unfamiliar with the neighborhood.
  • 1670 Whitney Avenue Hamden, Connecticut - Spring Glen
This traffic light sometimes cycles with approximately equal green time on each street even when no cars approach on Hawthorne and there is of course much more traffic on Whitney. When it does, traffic can back up for over 2 blocks as the picture shows. The problem is exacerbated because on-street parking there reduces traffic on Whitney to one lane. This behavior is erratic; sometimes it behaves properly, staying green on Whitney until a vehicle approaches on Hawthorne. The strange behavior does nothing to improve safety and only causes vehicles to waste fuel.
  • 1667 Whitney Avenue Hamden, Connecticut - Spring Glen
No street sign for nearly 3 years now at the corner of Whitney and Hawthorne Aves.
  • 1601-1625 Whitney Ave Hamden, CT 06517, USA - Spring Glen
With the replacement of the traffic lights, new street signs are needed on Whitney at Gillies Rd. and Hawthorne Ave. Probably they are part of the replacement project, just want to be sure they are not overlooked. They are essential for those unfamiliar with the area.
  • 1853-1899 Whitney Ave Hamden, CT 06517, USA - Spring Glen
New traffic lights on Whitney Ave. are backing up traffic on it unnecessarily. The one at Glendowner Rd./Ridgewood Ave. is the worst, those at Thornton St. and Hawthorne Ave. almost as bad. They seel to be on fixed cycles, staying on green for the side streets when there is no traffic on them for much longer than needed. The old signals worked much better as they adapted to the traffic flow. I hope somebody in charge can report that this problem will be fixed as soon as possible. We may need traffic calming on Whitney but this is not the way to do it.

This traffic light will often wait some 15 seconds with red lights in all directions including the pedestrian signals. This is way longer than necessary for safety. Perhaps this is needed while an officer is directing traffic while utility work is going on, but it is totally unneeded and annoying at other times.
