  • High Street & Wall Street New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown

The New Haven Board of Aldermen is on the verge of permanently selling several blocks of city streets, in the heart of downtown New Haven.

These are public spaces that have been held in common since the city was founded in 1638.

High and Wall Street are frequently used by pedestrians and bicyclists in the Downtown area and in nearby neighborhoods, as they navigate the city during the day and at night.

According to reports, there are no guarantees that the public would retain access to this area, which are among the most crucial public spaces in our downtown. Once they own the streets, Yale may gate off the area at night, or during the day, whenever they wish.

A local resident has created a Change.org petition asking the New Haven Board of Aldermen not to proceed with the sale. You can read about the issue in the New Haven Independent:
    http://www.newhavenindependent.org/index.php/archives/entry/aldermen_vote_to_sell_2_city_streets_to_yale/

Please learn more about the issue, and sign the petition if you agree. Contact your elected officials regarding your thoughts on the sale.

  • 430-450 Poplar Street New Haven, Connecticut - Fair Haven
There's now a new dirt bike rider operating out of one of the houses in 430 - 450 Poplar St. It's a blue & white bike, Hispanic male with very short hair. He frequently rides up and down this stretch of Poplar, all the way to Lombard and then turns around and heads back down Poplar, going the wrong way on a one way street. He plays 'chicken' with oncoming cars, causing them to have to swerve to get out of his way. I will post photos and/or videos as soon as they're available. Area police and Sgt. Herb Johnson, please take note!
  • 125 Humphrey St New Haven, Connecticut - Mill River
There are two piles of tires that have been dumped on the sidewalk in front of the old Humphrey Motors, 125 Humphrey St. One is in front of the building and the second pile is near the intersection with Mill River St. DPW, will you please remove? Thank you.
  • Bulk Pickup Pile Archiviert
558-560 Lombard St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
There is a large pile of discarded furniture and random household items on the curb strip in front of 558-560 Lombard and it has been there for several days now, so people are adding to it. My assumption is that this is not a pre-scheduled bulk pickup, since they are usually picked up quickly. DPW, will you please remove this? Thank you!
  • 456 Lombard St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
The sidewalk along 456 Lombard (both Lombard & Fillmore) belonging to 388 Peck St has not been shoveled AT ALL since the storm. LCI, will you please address this? This is the former Ezekial Cheever School and is now housing managed by NHR Properties. Thank you.
  • 417 Lombard New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
The sidewalk along 417 Lombard St has not been shoveled AT ALL since the storm. LCI, will you please address this? Thank you.
  • 439 Lombard St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
The sidewalk along Monroe belonging to 439 Lombard St has not been shoveled AT ALL since the storm. LCI, will you please address this? Thank you.

  • 442 Poplar St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven

This is 442 Poplar St, a three family house with Section 8 tenants, and once again the landlord has NOT shoveled the sidewalk or even the stairs to the front door from snowfall that occurred FOUR days ago. This section of Poplar Street is a mess because of the absentee landlords who REFUSE to maintain their properties, causing pedestrians to walk in the middle of the street. This includes 436 Poplar St, the house next door, which is also un shoveled.

    442: David & Jody Steinbach
    436: Keith Macchiaverna

This is not acceptable; will the City please start fining these absentee and irresponsible landlords? I shoveled the walk in front of 444 Poplar and then 442 Poplar, but the Steinbachs and Mr. Macchiaverna need to do their job and maintain their properties. Thank you.

  • 269-271 Lombard St New Haven, CT - Chatham Square

The houses at the intersection of Poplar and Chatham are CONSTANTLY dumping huge piles of bulk trash (mattresses, beds, broken furniture, etc, etc) and just leaving it until someone reports it to DPW. Can something be done to prevent this? There's another huge pile that's been building for days now and it also needs to be picked up. Thank you.

Edited to correct that it's the intersection of Poplar and CHATHAM, not Lombard. Thanks.

  • Humphrey St New Haven, CT - Mill River

There is a couch, an office chair and a rolled up rug / carpet remnant that has been dumped on Humphrey just west of the train tunnel entrance. It's on the south side of Humphrey. DPW, please pickup when you can. Thank you.

  • Bulk Trash Dump Archiviert
445 Poplar St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
There is a pile of bulk trash items left on Chatham St, right at the corner of Poplar and Chatham, by the side of 445 Poplar St. This pile is growing and already includes furniture, carpet, a mattress or two and a couch. Can we please get this picked up? Thank you.
  • 407 Lombard St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
The male owner and/or resident of this house is setting off fireworks (illegal in Connecticut) in the driveway, and is creating a huge noise disturbance. Tonight it was at 9:30 pm and the noise is incredibly deafening. In addition these fireworks are causing RED HOT CINDERS to rain down on the vehicles parked in the street, the houses and the yards of everyone around. I'm not even on Lombard and my vehicles were hit. This is unacceptable, is illegal and is a huge noise nuisance. What can be done about this? Thank you.
  • 249 Chatham St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
There is a pile of furniture and other tenant belongings in front of 249-251 Chatham AND in front of 269 Chatham, just four houses down. Both piles have been there for about a week now. Will DPW please pick up? Thank you.
  • Humphrey St new haven/New Haven, CT - Mill River
Some slovenly souls decided that Humphrey Street would be a great place to dump two sofas, with accompanying cushions. The 3 seater is partially blocking the sidewalk, the 2-seater is between the curb and the sidewalk. DPW, will you please pick up? This is just west of the train track overpass, on the south side of the street; see pic attached. Thank you.
  • Chatham St & Poplar St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
A drunk driver on Friday plowed through the corner of Chatham & Poplar Streets, taking out both the stop sign and the one way sign. The stop sign has been propped up against the utility pole for now. Can we get these replaced, please? Thanks. (TT&P Dept called to report as well)
  • Pine St At Poplar St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
I am not usually in favor of stop signs for traffic calming, but something needs to be done here ASAP. There is no stop sign on Poplar St after the intersection of Pine, leaving a long enough stretch of road that ends at Lombard. Some drivers (in little, souped up zoom cars) are accelerating after Pine and reaching speeds in excess of 50 MPH! This area is heavily residential with 2-3 family homes throughout, and lots of kids playing. Can we please get some speed enforcement here? A stop sign at Chatham / Poplar would stop the speeders (literally). It's become downright dangerous and someone is going to get killed this summer. Thank you.
  • Couch on Curb Archiviert
256 Chatham St New Haven, CT 06513 - Fair Haven
There is a couch and some other bulk trash items on the south side of Chatham, near the intersection of Poplar St. They've been there for 2+ weeks now; can we get a pick-up, please? Thank you.
